Nigeria competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August and 5 September 2021. This was their eighth consecutive appearance at the Summer Paralympics since 1992 Summer Paralympics, 1992. Work toward freedom led to the formation of a national planning committee, which in 1958 named for a competition to choose a national flag. Thousands of designs were submitted, but the flag of equivalent green-white-green flat stripes, green stood for farming and white for unity and peace was chosen. The flag of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was designed in 1959 and first officially hoisted on 1 October 1960. The flag has three vertical bands of green, white, green. The two green stripes represent natural wealth, and the white represents peace and unity. Design The flag is an adaptation of the winning entry from Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi in a competition held in 1959. Akinkunmi was a 23-year-old student at the time he designed the flag. He was studying at Norwood Technical College in London, England, when he saw an advertisement in a newspaper that submissions were being accepted for the design of a new national flag of Nigeria. Table Tennis At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Table tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. There were 280 qualified slots (174 male, 106 female) which competed in male and female events. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Classification There are 11 classifications in table tennis. Classes 1 – 5 are assigned to athletes who sit in a wheelchair while competing. Classes 6 – 10 are assigned to athletes who stands while competing. The lower number indicates a greater degree of impairment. Class 11 is for athletes with intellectual impairment. Qualification Events 31 events were contested. Lauritta Onye
Lauritta Onye (born 4 January 1984) is a Paralympian athlete who competes in F40 classification throwing events. She competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro winning gold in the F40 shot put. Onye is also an actress, performing under the name Laury White. Personal history Onye was born in Owerri, Nigeria in 1984. She is from Ikeduru. Onye was born with a form of achondroplasia and is in height. Besides athletics, Onye had ambitions to be an actress and in 2015 she starred in the Nollywood film ''Lords of Money'', appearing under the name Laury White. The 2019 World Para Athletics Championships was a Paralympic track and field event organised by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee. It was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 7 to 15 November 2019. It was the 9th edition of the event, formerly known as the IPC Athletics World Championship prior to 2017. Flora Ugwunwa (born 26 June 1984) is a Nigerian Paralympic athlete competing in F54-classification events. Career She represented Nigeria at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and she won the gold medal in the women's javelin throw F54 event. She also set a new world record of 20.25m at this event.
