Niels Peter Holbech
Niels Peter Holbech (14 September 1804 - 11 January 1889) was a Danish portrait painter. Biography Holbech was born on board the ''Maria Constantia'', en route from Calcutta to Copenhagen. His father was a sailing master whose family often travelled with him. During the Gunboat War, the ship they were on was seized by the British and they spent two years as prisoners of war.Kirsten NannestadN. P. Bertel Thorvaldsen
Bertel Thorvaldsen (; 19 November 1770 – 24 March 1844) was a Danes, Danish and Icelanders, Icelandic Sculpture, sculptor medallist, medalist of international fame, who spent most of his life (1797–1838) in Italy. Thorvaldsen was born in Copenhagen into a working-class Danish/Icelandic family, and was accepted to the Royal Danish Academy of Art at the age of eleven. Working part-time with his father, who was a wood carver, Thorvaldsen won many honors and medals at the academy. He was awarded a stipend to travel to Rome and continue his education. In Rome, Thorvaldsen made a name for himself as a sculptor. Maintaining a large workshop in the city, he worked in a heroic neo-classicist style. His patrons resided all over Europe. Upon his return to Denmark in 1838, Thorvaldsen was received as a Folk hero, national hero. The Thorvaldsen Museum was erected to house his works next to Christiansborg Palace. Karlshamn
Karlshamn () is a locality and the seat of Karlshamn Municipality in Blekinge County, Sweden. It had 13,576 inhabitants in 2015, out of 31,846 in the municipality. Karlshamn received a Royal Charter and city privileges in 1664, when King Charles X Gustav, in Swedish Karl, realized the strategic location near the Baltic Sea. In 1666 the town was named Karlshamn, meaning ''Karl's Port'' in honour of the Swedish king. History At the outlet of the stream Mieån was found a harbour and fishing village "Bodekull" and a farm "Bodetorp". In the lower parts of "Mörrumsån" was a prosperous salmon fishery. Baroness Ursula Signe Sophie Dahlerup, née Holbech (5 October 1840, Copenhagen - 25 September 1925, Charlottenlund) was a Danish entrepreneur, known for "Baroness Dahlerup's Patent Mattress". Life and work She was born to the painter, Niels Peter Holbech, and his wife, Caroline Louise Amalie Gamborg (1809-1873), daughter of the philosopher, . From an early age, she wanted to pursue a career in music or art, but her father, who was very traditional, insisted that she become a wife and mother. In 1869, she married Baron Hans Joost Vilhelm Dahlerup (1830-1876), a lawyer at the Ministry of Finance. They had three children. Their first-born son, Hans, an aspiring sculptor, committed suicide in Paris at the age of twenty. After becoming a widow, she found herself free to pursue her interests, and took courses at a drawing school for women.
