Nicolás Asencio
Nicolás Geovanny Asencio Espinoza (born April 26, 1975) is an Ecuadorian former football striker. He played for several clubs, including his beloved Barcelona de Guayaquil. In Ecuador he also played for Aucas, El Nacional, Deportivo Cuenca, Macará and Deportivo Quito, in Mexico for Tecos UAG, in Colombia for Millonarios, in Chile for Cobreloa and also in Bolivia for Wilstermann. National team Asencio played for the Ecuador national football team between 1995 and 2003 earning a total of 20 caps including one in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. After football After his retirement, Asencio worked as Sport Director for Barcelona SC until 2021. Next, he joined Guayaquil Sport with the same charge. Machala
Machala () is a city in south-west Ecuador. It is the capital of the El Oro Province, and is located near the Gulf of Guayaquil on fertile lowlands. Machala has a population of 241,606 (2010 census); it is the eighth-biggest city in the country, and the second-most important port. It has been referred to as the ''Banana Capital of the World''. Economy Machala is a commercial center for the surrounding agriculture industries. There is a large trade in bananas, coffee and cocoa. The banana industry is especially oriented for exportation, and plays a huge role in the city's economy. Bananas are shipped out from nearby Puerto Bolívar mainly to North America. Machala's geographical position near Guayaquil also makes it an important transportation center. Many travelers heading south to Peru or north to Guayaquil funnel through the city. Millonarios
Millonarios Fútbol Club is a professional Colombian football team based in Bogotá, that currently plays in the Categoría Primera A. They play their home games at the El Campín stadium. Millonarios was initially created in 1937 by students from the Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé. After the team initially was unsure about which name it would want to use: Unión and Juventud were originally favoured, it got under the influence of the city administration of Bogotá and operated as ''Club Municipal de Deportes''. Millonarios was formally founded on June 18, 1946, thanks to the efforts of Alfonso Senior Quevedo, who became the first chairman. The Canada Cup ( Maple Cup) of 1999 was an international football (soccer) tournament played at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from 2 June 1999 to 6 June 1999. The 2009 Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol de la Serie A was the 51st season of the Serie A, Ecuador's premier football league. The season began on January 31 and ended on December 7. The Liga Pro Betcris, simply known as the Liga Pro, or the Serie A, is a professional football league in Ecuador. At the top of the Ecuadorian football league system, it is the country's premier football competition. Contested by sixteen clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the Serie B, the lower level of the Primera Categoría. The season runs from February to December and is usually contested in multiple stages. The main sponsor is Betcris and it is known as Liga Pro Betcris.
