Nicolas Mosar
Nicolas Mosar (25 November 1927 – 6 January 2004) was a politics of Luxembourg, Luxembourgish politician, jurist, and diplomat. A Christian Social People's Party (CSV) member, Mosar was elected to the Luxembourg communal council, communal council of Luxembourg City in 1959, and sat in the council until 1984, including a period as an ''Échevin (Luxembourg), échevin''. He first entered the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg, Chamber of Deputies in 1969, and, excluding a two-year spell out (1974–1976) after the CSV's 1974 Luxembourgian legislative election, 1974 election defeat, sat in the Chamber until 1984. During this time, he was also President of the Christian Social People's Party, President of the CSV (1972–1974). Leaving domestic politics, Mosar replaced Gaston Thorn as Luxembourg's European Commissioner in 1985, taking on the brief of European Commissioner for Energy. The politics of Luxembourg takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister of Luxembourg is the head of government, and the multi-party system. Executive power is under the constitution of 1868, as amended, exercised by the government, by the Grand Duke and the Council of Government (cabinet), which consists of a prime minister and several other ministers. António José Baptista Cardoso e Cunha (28 January 1933 – 24 January 2021) was a Portuguese Social Democratic Party (PSD) politician. He was a government minister in the 1970s and 1980s, and then from 1986 to 1992 he served as Portugal's first European Commissioner. Career Born in Leiria, Cardoso e Cunha studied at the University of Lisbon and then worked as chemical engineer and in business administration. He was elected to the Assembly of the Republic in 1978, and in September 1978 he was appointed as State Secretary for Foreign Trade, a junior ministerial post in the Democratic Alliance government led by Alfredo Nobre da Costa.
