Nicolas Hajj, BS (born on 30 June 1907 in Machgara, Lebanon - died on 12 January 1995) was a Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Baniyas. Life Nicolas Hajj was ordained to the priesthood on April 1, 1934 as Chaplain of the Melkite Basilian of the Most Holy Redeemer Order. On 30 July 1965, he was appointed as archbishop and his ordination was performed per hac vice and became Auxiliary Bishop in the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch and titular Archbishop of Damietta of Greek Melkites. On September 9, 1965, he was consecrated bishop by Patriarch of Antioch Maximos IV Sayegh, SMSP consecrated bishop. His co-consecrators were the archbishops Pierre Kamel Medawar, SMSP and Néophytos Edelby, BA. On November 3, 1984 Nicolas Hajj was appointed Archbishop of Banyas in Lebanon. Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy Of Baniyas
Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Baniyas (in Latin: Archeparchy Caesariensis or Paneadensis) is a diocese of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church suffragan of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Tyre. In 2009 there were 2,500 baptized. It is currently governed by Archeparch Georges Nicholas Haddad, SMSP. The Archeparchy is named after the city of Baniyas. Territory and statistics The archeparchy includes the southeastern part of Lebanon. The archeparchial seat is the town of Marjayoun with its Saint Peter's Cathedral, built in 1892 and restored in 1968 after a fire. The archeparchy had 11 parishes at the end of 2012. Maximos IV Sayegh
Maximos IV Sayegh (or ''Saïgh''; 10 April 1878, in Aleppo, Syria – 5 November 1967, in Beirut, Lebanon) was Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Alexandria and Jerusalem of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church from 1947 until his death in 1967. One of the fathers of Second Vatican Council, the outspoken patriarch stirred the Council by urging reconciliation between the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. He accepted the title of cardinal in 1965 after Pope Paul VI clarified the significance of that title in the case of an Eastern Patriarch. Life Massimo Sayegh was born on 10 April 1878 in Aleppo. Pierre Kamel Medawar
Pierre Kamel Medawar, SMSP (26 December 1887, in Haifa, Israel – 27 April 1985) was auxiliary bishop in the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch. Life On August 15, 1938, he received the ordination to the priesthood in the Società dei Missionari di San Paolo. On 13 March 1943, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch and Titular Bishop of Pelusium of Greek Melkites. The ordination as bishop was held on June 6, 1943. In 1969 he retired due to age-related reasons and became emeritus Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch until his death on April 27, 1985. Néophytos Edelby
Néophytos Edelby (born on 10 November 1920 in Aleppo, Syria - died on 10 June 1995) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Aleppo of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. Life Elias (baptismal name) was the eldest of six children of Abdallah Edelby and the Armenian Lucie Battouk. After the first school in the Franciscans in Aleppo, he joined at the age of twelve years to the Aleppininan Basilians, where he took his monastic vows in 1936 and was named Neophytos. Then Edelby studied at the Seminary of St. Anne of the White Fathers in Jerusalem. On 20 July 1944 he was appointed and consecrated Chaplain of Aleppinian Basilian. In 1946 he went to further studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he got in 1950 his doctorate utriusque juris. Saba Youakim, BS (born on 2 June 1914 in El Wardieh in Baalbek, Lebanon – died on 6 March 2003) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Petra and Philadelphia in Amman. Life Saba Youakim was ordained to the priesthood on November 30, 1939, to be chaplain of the Ordo Basilianus Sanctissimi Salvatoris Melkitarum (BS). Denys Gaith, BC (19 March 1910 in Yabroud, Syria – 22 March 1986) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Homs in Syria. François Abou Mokh, BS (born on 1 July 1921 in Ma'loula, Syria - died on 11 August 2006) was a Curial Bishop in the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch in Syria. Jean Mansour, SMSP (born on 27 July 1928 in Baalbek, Lebanon - died on 17 November 2006) was Bishop and administrator in the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch. Ignace Raad, BS (20 December 1923 in Kafar-Nabrakh, Lebanon – 19 July 1999, Montreal, Quebec, Canada) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Sidon in Lebanon and judge at the Tribunal of the Roman Rota.
