Nicolas Cordier
Nicolas Cordier (1567–1612) was a sculptor from Lorraine working in Rome where he was also known as Niccolò da Lorena or "il Franciosino" (the little Frenchman). Cordier was born in Saint-Mihiel. As a sculptor, he primary produced religious-themed works which were executed for church commissions. Surviving works can be found in various prestigious churches of Rome and in The Louvre. He died in Rome in 1612. Saint-Mihiel
Saint-Mihiel () is a commune in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region in Northeastern France. Geography Saint-Mihiel lies on the banks of the river Meuse. History A Benedictine abbey was established here in 708 or 709 by Count Wulfoalde and his wife Adalsinde. The library, containing over 9,000 works, is still on the original site. During World War I, Saint-Mihiel was captured by the Germans in 1914, and was recaptured during the Battle of Saint-Mihiel by the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) from 12 September to 19 September 1918. Demographics Features Saint-Mihiel is known for its sculptures by Renaissance sculptor Ligier Richier (1500–1567). David (; , "beloved one") was a king of ancient Israel and Judah and the third king of the United Monarchy, according to the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament. The Tel Dan stele, an Aramaic-inscribed stone erected by a king of Aram-Damascus in the late 9th/early 8th centuries BCE to commemorate a victory over two enemy kings, contains the phrase (), which is translated as " House of David" by most scholars. The Mesha Stele, erected by King Mesha of Moab in the 9th century BCE, may also refer to the "House of David", although this is disputed.
