Nicolas Apostol
Nicolas Gabriel Apostol (born January 1, 1999) is a Canadian soccer player who most recently played for Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League. Early life Apostol began playing youth soccer with the Guildford Athletic Club in Surrey, playing with them from 2006 through 2011. From 2008 to 2011, he was a member of Whitecaps FC Prospects program, while still playing youth club soccer with Guildford, and in September 2011, he officially joined the Whitecaps FC Residency Program. In 2021, he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23. In 2017, he began attending the University of Connecticut, playing for the men's soccer team, scoring two goals in 18 games as a rookie. The following year, he departed UConn to attend Oregon State University. Real Monarchs is a professional soccer club playing in the MLS Next Pro, a third division league of American soccer. The team is owned by, and operates as the reserve team of, the Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake. While the senior club is based, and plays, in Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, Utah, Real Monarchs SLC are based in the Real Salt Lake training facility in Herriman, Utah, playing out of Zions Bank Stadium. 2016 USL Season
The 2016 USL season was the sixth season of the United Soccer League and the twenty-second season of USSF sanctioned Division III play organized by the United Soccer Leagues. On August 6, 2015, the league announced that the season would consist of 30 games rather than 28 games played from 2013–2015. This was the first increase in the number of games since the league went from 24 games per season in 2012 to 28 games in 2013. The league expanded from 24 to 29 teams in 2016. Six franchises were officially announced by the league: Swope Park Rangers, Orlando City B, Rio Grande Valley FC, FC Cincinnati, Bethlehem Steel FC, and San Antonio FC. The Austin Aztex were on hiatus for the 2016 season, due to stadium availability issues, but planned to return in 2017 pending construction of a new, soccer-specific stadium.
