Nicolae Nicoleanu
Nicolae Nicoleanu (born Neagoe TomoÈ™oiu; June 16, 1835–April 7, 1871) was an Imperial Austrian-born Romanian poet. Born in Cernatu Săcelelor, a village near BraÈ™ov in the Austrian Empire, he crossed into Wallachia to attend the episcopal seminary in Buzău, followed by the National College in Craiova. Aged 23, he left for Paris, returning three years later after passing through Berlin and Antwerp. He began his journalistic career at C. A. Rosetti's ''Românul''. At age 27, having moved to Moldavia, he was a clerk in Roman; at 29, he was a school director in the provincial capital IaÈ™i. He then worked as a clerk at the State Archives; spent a year as school inspector for IaÈ™i, Vaslui and Fălciu counties; was a clerk in the Education Ministry and a secretary at the State Archives in the Wallachian capital Bucharest. The Austrian Empire (german: link=no, Kaiserthum Oesterreich, modern spelling , ) was a Central-Eastern European multinational great power from 1804 to 1867, created by proclamation out of the realms of the Habsburgs. During its existence, it was the third most populous monarchy in Europe after the Russian Empire and the United Kingdom. Iacob Negruzzi
Iacob C. Negruzzi (December 31, 1842 – January 6, 1932) was a Moldavian, later Romanian poet and prose writer. Born in Iași, he was the son of Constantin Negruzzi and his wife Maria (''née'' Gane). Living in Berlin between 1853 and 1863, he attended high school, followed by the University of Berlin, from which he obtained a doctorate in 1863. He was a professor at the University of Iași from 1864 to 1884, and at the University of Bucharest from 1885 until his retirement in 1897. He was elected to the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Assembly of Deputies in 1870, and later joined the Romanian Senate. He was elected a titular list of members of the Romanian Academy, member of the Romanian Academy in 1881, was later its general secretary, and served three terms as Academy president: 1893-1894, 1910-1913 and 1923-1926.
