Nicola Renzi
Nicola Renzi (born 18 July 1979) is a Sammarinese politician who is a former foreign minister and served as a Captain Regent with Lorella Stefanelli from 1 October 2015 until 1 April 2016. He first stood for election to the Grand and General Council in 2012 on the Popular Alliance list. Renzi worked as a Latin and Greek teacher at San Marino High School between 2003 and 2004. He is married and has one child. He holds a PhD in History from the Scuola Superiore di Studi Storici di San Marino. San Marino Secretary For Foreign Affairs
The Secretary for Foreign Affairs ( it, Segretario di Stato per gli Affari Esteri e Politici) is the minister for foreign affairs of San Marino. Together with the Secretary for Interior and the Secretary for Finance, this officer is one of the three members of the executive Congress of State directly appointed by the Grand and General Council, the parliament of the republic. Due to the absence of the office of Prime Minister in the constitutional structure of the State, the Secretary for Foreign Affairs is traditionally seen as the most relevant post in the Sammarinese government. 2012 Sammarinese General Election
General elections were held in San Marino on 11 November 2012. The 60 seats in the Grand and General Council were up for grabs. The elections were held using the majority bonus system. The previous election, held in 2008, provided the Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party with the largest single parliamentary group. The Party of Socialists and Democrats, although winning more votes than the former, became the main opposition party. However, for the 2012 elections, the two parties decided to run together, under the banner of the coalition San Marino Common Good. They were joined by the Popular Alliance. Meanwhile, the remaining major parties formed the coalitions Agreement for the Country and Active Citizenship, politically placed in the center and on the left, respectively. The Captains Regent ( Italian: ''Capitani reggenti'') are the two heads of state of the Republic of San Marino. They are elected every six months by the Grand and General Council, the country's legislative body. Normally the Regents are chosen from opposing parties and they serve a six-month term. The investiture of the captains regent takes place on 1 April and 1 October every year. This tradition dates back at least to 1243. The practice of dual heads of government ( diarchy) is derived directly from the customs of the Roman Republic, equivalent to the consuls of ancient Rome.
