Nickerson Mansion
The Nickerson Mansion is a historic house in Brewster, Massachusetts. The large mansion was built in 1907 by Addie Nickerson and her son Samuel on the foundation of an 1890 mansion that was built by Addie's late father-in-law, Samuel Mayo Nickerson, for his son Roland's family (Addie was married to Roland Crosby Nickerson) to use as a summer home. The building's interior was lavishly appointed with Italian marble and hand-carved woodwork. The Nickersons owned the property until 1945, when it was purchased by the Missionaries of La Salette, who used it as a seminary. It is now one of the centerpieces of the Ocean Edge Resort under the name "The Mansion at Ocean Edge". Brewster, Massachusetts
Brewster is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States, Barnstable County being coextensive with Cape Cod. The population of Brewster was 10,318 at the 2020 census. Brewster is twinned with the town of Budleigh Salterton in the United Kingdom. History Brewster was first settled in 1656 as a northeastern parish of the town of Harwich. The town separated from Harwich as the northern, more wealthy parish in 1693, and was officially incorporated as its own town in 1803 when the less wealthy citizens of Harwich were upset that the town's institutions were all on Brewster's main street (now Route 6A), including the town hall and churches. Brewster was named in honor of Elder William Brewster, the first religious leader of the Pilgrims at Plymouth Colony. Missionaries Of La Salette
The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette (M.S. - Missionarium Saletiniensis) are a religious congregation of priests and brothers in the Latin Church. They are named after the apparition of Our Lady of La Salette in France. There is also a parallel religious community of sisters called the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of La Salette. A lay fraternal group of associates also works in cooperation with the vowed religious. The Missionaries are dedicated to making known the message of Our Lady of La Salette, a call to healing of inner brokenness and personal reconciliation with God, especially as found in the first three commandments.
