Nick Wise
Nicholas Joseph Wise (originally Weisse; June 15, 1866 – January 26, 1923) was a professional baseball player. He appeared in one game in Major League Baseball with the Boston Beaneaters of the National League on June 20, 1888. He split the game between catcher and right field, failing to get a hit in three at bats. He also played with various teams in the New England League between 1887 and 1897. Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket.
