Nick Nelson (baseball)
Nicholas B. Nelson (born December 5, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the New York Yankees. Career New York Yankees Nelson attended Rutherford High School in Panama City, Florida. He drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 31st round of the 2014 MLB draft, but did not sign and played college baseball at Gulf Coast Community College. He was then drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB draft and signed. Nelson made his professional debut with the Pulaski Yankees, going 0–3 with a 3.38 ERA over innings. He pitched 2017 with the Charleston RiverDogs, compiling a 3–12 record with a 4.56 ERA over 22 starts, and 2018 with Charleston, Tampa Tarpons and Trenton Thunder, pitching to a combined 8–6 record with a 3.55 ERA over 26 games (25 starts) between the three teams. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The Charleston RiverDogs are a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League. They are located in Charleston, South Carolina, and are the Single-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Long Reliever
A long reliever or long-relief pitcher is a relief pitcher in baseball who enters the game if the starting pitcher leaves the game early. Long relievers often enter in the first three innings of a game when the starting pitcher cannot continue, whether due to ineffective pitching, lack of endurance, rain delays, injury, or ejection. The hope is that the long reliever will be able to get the game under control, and hopefully his team's offense will be able to help get the team back into the game. The hope is also that the long reliever will pitch long enough to save other relievers in the bullpen from having to pitch. Bradley Richard Hand (born March 20, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Hand's family settled in Chaska before he entered high school. In baseball, a save (abbreviated SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Most commonly a pitcher earns a save by entering in the ninth inning of a game in which his team is winning by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching one inning without losing the lead. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role. The save statistic was created by journalist Jerome Holtzman in 1959 to "measure the effectiveness of relief pitchers" and was adopted as an official Major League Baseball (MLB) statistic in 1969. Donny Sands (born May 16, 1996) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2022 with the Philadelphia Phillies. Early life and career Sands was born in Tucson, Arizona, and he lived there until he was in the third grade. His family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and he served as a batboy for the New Mexico Lobos, the college baseball team at the University of New Mexico. He also spent time in his youth living in Ciudad Obregón in Sonora, Mexico. Sands' father, Roger, died of a heart attack in 2012. He moved with his mother, Alma, back to Tucson.
