Nicholas Urie
Nicholas Urie (born July 29, 1985 in Los Angeles, California) is an American composer of jazz and classical music. Urie teaches jazz composition at the Berklee College of Music. Urie was a recipient of the first annual ASCAP Young Jazz Composer's Award. Urie left Los Angeles to study composition with Bob Brookmeyer in Boston MA. A Graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music with both bachelor's and master's degrees, Urie's music has been heard internationally at festivals and concerts in Peru, Syria, Spain, England, Germany, throughout Scandinavia and the United States. Urie's music has been performed by the Metropole Orchestra, Boston Pops, John Scofield, Kurt Elling, Cory Wong, Bob Brookmeyer, Vince Mendoza, The Spinners, The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, The Klüvers Big Band, Frank Carlberg, and Dave Samuels. Henry Charles Bukowski ( ; born Heinrich Karl Bukowski, ; August 16, 1920 – March 9, 1994) was a German-American poet, novelist, and short story writer. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambience of his adopted home city of Los Angeles. Bukowski's work addresses the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, and the drudgery of work. Dave Samuels
David Alan Samuels (October 9, 1948 – April 22, 2019) was an American vibraphone and marimba player who spent many years with the contemporary jazz group Spyro Gyra. His recordings and live performances during that period also reflect his prowess on the steelpan, a tuned percussion instrument of Trinidadian origin. Biography Samuels was born in Waukegan, Illinois, United States. At the age of six he started playing drums and piano. He learned vibes and marimba while a student at Boston University. He continued his studies at the Berklee College of Music, also in Boston, and studied with vibraphonist Gary Burton. He taught percussion at Berklee before moving to New York City in 1974. The Spinners are an American rhythm and blues vocal group that formed in Ferndale, Michigan, United States, in 1954.
