Nicholas Kirton
Nicholas Kirton (born 6 May 1998) is a Barbadian-born Canadian cricketer. He has played for the Canada national cricket team since 2018. He has also represented the Barbados national cricket team in West Indian domestic cricket and the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. He plays as a left-handed middle-order batsman. Personal life Kirton was born in Barbados on 6 May 1998. His mother was born in Canada, making him eligible to play international cricket for both Canada and the West Indies. In April 2025, Kirton was taken into custody by the Barbados Police Service after arriving at Grantley Adams International Airport on an Air Canada. It was subsequently reported that he had been arrested in connection with an investigation into the importation of of cannabis seized at the airport. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the International Cricket Council, Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup
The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup was the ninth edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket from 1 to 29 June 2024. It was the first major ICC tournament to include matches played in the United States. The West Indies had previously hosted the 2010 competition. One Day International
One Day International (ODI) is a format of cricket, played between two teams with international status, in which each team faces a fixed number of fifty overs, with the game lasting up to 7 hours. The World Cup, generally held every four years, is played in this format. They are major matches and considered the highest standard of List A, limited-overs competition. The international one-day game is a late-twentieth-century development. The first ODI was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off
The 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off was the inaugural edition of the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, a cricket tournament which formed part of the 2023 Cricket World Cup qualification process. It took place in March and April 2023, with all matches having One Day International (ODI) status, regardless of whether or not a team had ODI status prior to the start of the event. As a result, Jersey played their first ever matches with ODI status. Six teams qualified for the tournament: the bottom four teams from the 2019–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 along with the top teams in Groups A and B of the 2019–2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League. Twenty20 International
Twenty20 International (T20I) is a form of Twenty20 cricket, in which each team plays a single innings with a maximum of twenty overs. The matches are played between international teams recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). In the T20I format, each bowler is restricted to a maximum of four overs. A mandatory powerplay is taken during the first six overs of an innings. The first T20I match took place on 17 February 2005 between Australia and New Zealand, with the first ICC T20 World Cup held in 2007. The matches were initially competed between the full members of the ICC and selected associate member teams. The 2019 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier was a cricket tournament held during October and November 2019 in the United Arab Emirates to determine the teams that would qualify for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two was a cricket tournament that took place in February 2018 in Namibia. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament, after beating Nepal by 7 runs in the final. Canada and Namibia finished third and fourth respectively and remained in Division Two. Oman and Kenya finished fifth and sixth respectively and were both relegated to Division Three. 2020 Caribbean Premier League
The 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPLT20) or for sponsorship reasons, Hero CPL 2020 was the eighth season of the Caribbean Premier League, the domestic Twenty20 cricket league played in the West Indies. All matches were played in Trinidad and Tobago. The tournament started on 18 August and ended on 10 September 2020. On 10 July 2020, the local government gave its approval for the tournament to go ahead, with all the matches taking place at two venues behind closed doors. The full schedule for the tournament was confirmed on 27 July 2020.
