After a series of independent releases, 311 was signed to Capricorn Records in 1992 and released the albums ''Music'' (1993) and '' Grassroots'' (1994) to moderate success. They achieved greater success with their 1995 triple platinum self-titled album, which reached number 12 on the ''Billboard'' 200 on the strength of the singles " Down" and " All Mixed Up", the former of which topped the ''Billboard'' Hot Modern Rock Tracks in 1996. The band's next three albums—''Transistor'' (1997), '' Soundsystem'' (1999) and ''From Chaos'' (200 ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

From Chaos
''From Chaos'' is the sixth studio album by 311, released on June 19, 2001. In 2000, before this album was recorded and released they left Capricorn Records and switched to Volcano Entertainment as their permanent label. Singles from this album include "You Wouldn't Believe", "I'll Be Here Awhile", and "Amber". The latter was the most popular single from the album, and it still remains 311's most popular single to date. ''From Chaos'' is the first album to ever be recorded in 311's current recording studio The Hive in North Hollywood, California. ''From Chaos'' is an enhanced CD, featuring interviews with the band. Shortly after the album was mixed, lead singer Nick Hexum had his tonsils removed. "Bomb the Town," "Will the World," "We Do It Like This," and "Dreamland" are b-sides from this CD. They can be heard on the bonus disc included with Enlarged to Show Detail 2. Background Much of the album ''From Chaos'' was written by the band while on tour in 2000 promoting their ... Soundsystem (311 Album)
''Soundsystem'' is the fifth studio album by 311, released on October 12, 1999. ''Soundsystem'', which was certified Gold by the RIAA, was the last 311 album on Capricorn Records before the band switched to Volcano Records in 2000. Recording processes for the album began on March 11, 1999. Reception ''Rolling Stone'' discusses their mix of various genres, commenting "they offer their most ambitious fusion yet -- each track is a whirlwind tour of their soulful influences. Alas, the ingredients usually refuse to mix in 311's hands, resulting in disjunctions that veer between the bland and the unintentionally funny". Track listing Personnel Credits adapted from album’s liner notes. ;311 *Nick Hexum – vocals, guitar, programming *Chad Sexton – drums, percussion, programming *Doug "S.A." Transistor (311 Album)
''Transistor'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band 311, released on August 5, 1997 by Capricorn Records. The album saw a change in musical style as fewer songs feature rapping in comparison to the band's previous albums. Upon its release, ''Transistor'' received negative reviews from critics, who felt it was overlong and self-indulgent. Retrospectively, however, the album has been more positively received, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Music Clocking in at 67:59 and with twenty-one tracks (or twenty-three, counting both hidden tracks), ''Transistor'' is 311's longest album and, until their 2017 album ''Mosaic'', was their only album to contain more than sixteen tracks. ''Transistor'' was originally intended to be a double album, but all songs were instead placed onto one disc. Nick Hexum admitted that doing too many songs in not enough time for ''Transistor'' was a mistake. While still utilizing their alternative rock sound in many songs, ''Transistor'' saw ... 311 (album)
''311'' (commonly known as the ''Blue Album'') is the third studio album by American rock band 311, released on July 11, 1995 by Capricorn Records. The album contains the successful singles "Don't Stay Home", " All Mixed Up", and " Down", and was certified triple platinum with sales of over three million copies. Reception AllMusic's Peter Stepek was positive towards the album, saying "These riff-heavy and radio-ready songs are underscored by a tight drum sound (often with a piccolo snare), the scratching of turntables, and the crunch of heavy guitars: a formidable backdrop for this surprisingly melodic effort. The rhythms of reggae and ska percolate through this mix, and the harmonies of Nick Hexum and S.A. Martinez lend the band an edge not found in the majority of bands that feature rapping over rock beats." Rolling Stone says the album has "ear candy with good beats" and "remarkably adept at genre juggling". They also describe the album as " Beasties-cum-Chili Peppers traits ... Grassroots (album)
''Grassroots'' is the second album by 311, released on July 12, 1994. The album was intentionally recorded to have a "muddy" tone, and was recorded in a small house in Van Nuys where all of the band members lived together. This album also contains the track "Applied Science", which is a staple in 311's live show and has included a full-band drum solo since 2000. P-Nut records with a five-string Warwick bass for the first time here as well. The album was certified Gold in 1999 by the RIAA, having sold over 500,000 copies. A special vinyl edition of the record was pressed for Black Friday in 2011 at United Record Pressing in Nashville, TN. Critical reception Sandra Schulman of the ''South Florida Sun Sentinel'' chastised ''Grassroots'' for resembling "Beastie Boys meets the Spin Doctors", writing that while musical fusion is a "fine" template to work from, the album is unsuccessful for reminding them of the musical styles of other musicians, rather than presenting "something new ... The Pussycat Dolls
The Pussycat Dolls were an American girl group and dance ensemble, founded in Los Angeles, California, by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995 as a burlesque troupe. At the suggestion of Jimmy Iovine, Antin decided to take the burlesque troupe mainstream as a pop group. Antin negotiated a record deal with Interscope Geffen A&M Records in 2003 turning the group into a music franchise comprising Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt. Their debut single, " Sway", was featured on the soundtrack of the 2004 film '' Shall We Dance?''. The Pussycat Dolls achieved worldwide success with the singles "Don't Cha", " Stickwitu", "Buttons", and their multi-platinum debut album '' PCD'' (2005). However, despite their commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict due to the emphasis on Scherzinger, the group's lead vocalist, and the subordinate treatment of the other members. Bachar's departure from the group pre ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
