Nichelle Nichols (, born Grace Dell Nichols; December 28, 1932 – July 30, 2022) was an American actress, singer, and dancer best known for her portrayal of Nyota Uhura in ''Star Trek'' and its film sequels. Nichols' portrayal of Uhura was groundbreaking for African American actresses on American television. From 1977 until 2015, Nichols volunteered her time to promote NASA's programs and recruit diverse astronauts, including some of the first female and ethnic minority astronauts. Nichols was born in Robbins, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. She trained in dance, and began her career as a dancer, singer, and model in Chicago. She went into stage acting, and had a television and film career. Career In 2017, Spellman, and her husband, Malcolm Spellman began to co-produce and co-write an alternate history television series for Home Box Office, called ''Confederate'', set in a present day America where slavery remained legal. Nichelle Patrice Prince (born February 19, 1995) is a Canadian soccer player who plays as a forward for National Women's Soccer League club Houston Dash and the Canadian national team. Club career Houston Dash After playing college soccer with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Prince was selected 28th overall by the Houston Dash in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. Prince would miss the majority of the 2019 season after tearing her meniscus at the 2019 Women's World Cup. International career Prince was a member of the team that won a silver medal at the 2012 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship in Guatemala and a silver medal at the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship.
