Niazi Demi
Niazi Rustem Demi (1919–1977) was an Albanian politician. Niazi Demi was born in 1919 in Filiates, a town of northwestern Greece located in the region of Chameria,(ancient Thesprotia). He studied in Vlorë">Thesprotia.html" ;"title="Chameria,(ancient Thesprotia">Chameria,(ancient Thesprotia). He studied in Vlorë and then in Tiranë's high school, graduating in late 1930s. In 1942 he joined the ranks of the Albanian National Liberation Front and in 1943 became political commissar of the Berat District brigades. He was also part of the VIIth Attacking Brigade ( sq, Brigada VII Sulmuese). After World War II he became initially counsellor of the Albanian ambassador in the USSR and later Minister of Trade of Albania. Albanians
The Albanians (; sq, Shqiptarët ) are an ethnic group and nation native to the Balkan Peninsula who share a common Albanian ancestry, culture, history and language. Filiates
Filiates ( el, Φιλιάτες; ) is a town and a municipality in Thesprotia, Greece. It is located in the northernmost part of the regional unit, bordering western Ioannina regional unit and southern Albania. Name The region of Filiates was known as Cestrine prior to the Ottoman period. The region is named for the ancient town of Cestria, in ancient Epirus, other ancient names for which were Cammania, Ilion, Epirus, Troy, Epirus and Troia and Epirusis; the site of ancient Cestria is probably over the Albanian frontier. The modern name Filiates is the result of the conversion of a surname. According to Eqrem Çabej, Idriz Ajeti and Ali Dhrimo, it contains the Albanian suffix -at, widely used to form toponyms from personal names and surnames.
