Niangua River
The Niangua River is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map, accessed May 31, 2011 tributary of the Osage River in the Ozarks region of southern and central Missouri in the United States. Via the Osage and Missouri rivers it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. Niangua River has the name of Niangua (or Nehemgar), an Indian tribal leader. The name is said to mean "bear". Course The Niangua River is formed in Webster County by the confluence of its short east and west forks, and flows generally northward through Dallas, Laclede and Camden counties, past Bennett Spring, Lake Niangua, and Ha Ha Tonka State Parks. Bennett Spring State Park
Bennett Spring State Park is a public recreation area located in Bennett Springs, Missouri, west of Lebanon on Highway 64 in Dallas and Laclede counties. It is centered on the spring that flows into the Niangua River and gives the park its name. The spring averages 100 million gallons (380,000 m3) of daily flow. The park offers fly fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking, and other activities. History In 1837, the James Brice family built a mill at the stream and the spring became known as Brice Spring. The town that built up was known as Brice. The family of Peter Bennett soon settled near the spring and started their own mill. Originally, the families were rivals, but they soon intermarried. Missouri Route 64
Route 64 is a highway in central Missouri with endpoints of Route 254 south of Hermitage and Route 5 in Lebanon. Route 64 is one of the original 1922 state highways and originally ran between Preston and Collins. It would eventually be moved further to the south with its older alignment becoming U.S. Route 54. It would also be extended east. It is also only one of three Missouri state highways bearing the same number as an Interstate highway in Missouri. Bagnell Dam
Bagnell Dam (informally, the Osage Dam) impounds the Osage River in the U.S. state of Missouri, creating the Lake of the Ozarks. The dam is located in the city of Lakeside in Miller County, near the Camden-Miller County line. The tall concrete gravity dam was built by the Union Electric Company (now Ameren) to generate hydroelectric power at its Osage Powerplant. It is long, including a long spillway and a long power station. The facility with eight generators has a maximum capacity of 215 megawatts. The dam provides power to 42,000 homes. The dam also creates Bagnell Dam Boulevard, a narrow two-lane highway connecting the nearby Bagnell Dam Strip with Lakeland and US 54.
