Niall McShea
Niall McShea (born 1 January 1974) is a rally driver. He won the Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) in 2004 in a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. He drove for the Proton R3 Rally Team in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). Career McShea, who was born in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, had his first experience at the wheel of a car was at the age of four when he slipped off the seat of his mother's car and drove into the front door of their house. In 1997 he won the Nissan Micra Challenge, before moving onto the British Rally Championship. In 2001 he competed in the first season of the Junior World Rally Championship driving a Ford Puma and then a Citroën Saxo, finishing in third in the standings. The following year he drove a Ray Mallock Ltd-prepared Opel Corsa in the championship, but mechanical issues restricted him to just two finishes, meaning he could only finish seventh in the standings. 1999 World Rally Championship Season
The 1999 World Rally Championship was the 27th season of the FIA World Rally Championship. The season consisted of 14 rallies. Tommi Mäkinen won his fourth drivers' world championship driving for Mitsubishi, ahead of Richard Burns and Didier Auriol. The manufacturers' title was won by Toyota, ahead of Subaru and Mitsubishi. In an upset predicted two years earlier a two-wheel-drive car won a rally for the first time since Alain Oreille won the 1989 Rallye Côte d'Ivoire in his Renault 5 when Philippe Bugalski took his Citroën Xsara Kit Car to victory in the Rally Catalunya. Bugalski backed it up three weeks later winning the Tour de Corse. With such specialised tarmac cars now beating WRC cars while at the same time not competing in the FIA 2-Litre World Rally Cup designed for them a revamp of two-wheel-drive regulations was created for the 2000 season. The 2007 Rally Ireland, the first Rally Ireland and fifteenth round of the 2007 World Rally Championship, was a motor rally run from 15 to 18 November. It took place over eight counties on both sides of the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Event started in Stormont, Belfast and finished in Mullaghmore, County Sligo.
