Niagara-on-the-Lake Transit
Niagara-on-the-Lake Transit was a provider of public transportation in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. Initiated on April 2, 2012, it served as a conventional bus operator serving both local residents and tourists. The service was suspended in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the off-season (November–April), one bus route was operated, which looped through central Niagara-on-the-Lake (Old Town), then follow the Niagara Stone Road corridor through the villages of Virgil and Glendale. The route ended at Niagara College, at which connections were available to Niagara Falls Transit, St. Catharines Transit, and Welland Transit. During the peak season (May–October), mainline routes terminated at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre at the edge of Old Town, with limited runs through the city centre. Niagara Stone Road
King's Highway 55, commonly referred to as Highway 55 and historically as the Niagara Stone Road and Black Swamp Road, was a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario, which connected the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) with Niagara-on-the-Lake, following Niagara Stone Road. The route divided a swath of wineries at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment, passing at an oblique angle to the concession road grid. A former Highway 55 designation connected Highway 6 with Highway 53, passing through the Mountain district of Hamilton. The more recent designation was applied in 1970, following the establishment of the Regional Municipality of Niagara. Niagara Falls Transit
Niagara Falls Transit operates the public transport bus services in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1960, Niagara Transit originally operated ten routes. In 2007 the operation of Niagara Transit was taken over by the transportation department of the City of Niagara Falls, at which time the agency adopted its present name. Its current service now provides 14 Monday to Saturday daytime routes, 8 Evening, Sunday & Holiday routes and 2 shuttle services for Niagara College (Welland and Glendale). Welland Transit
Welland Transit was a public transportation agency in Welland, Ontario, Canada from 1977 to 2022. Upon its inception in 1973 the bus service was operated by a private company, known as "Metro Niagara Transit," funded by the city of Welland, which assumed full operation of the transit system in 1977. On January 1st, 2023, it was merged with St. Catharines Transit and Niagara Falls Transit to form Niagara Region Transit. Eight scheduled routes provided Monday to Sunday daytime service with staggered services during off-peak times and evening service (between 6-11 pm Monday to Saturday). Weekday service was provided on three routes to destinations outside the city to Port Colborne, Niagara Falls, and St. Catharines, under Niagara Region Transit. Fort George, Ontario
Fort George was a military fortification in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. The fort was used by the British Army, the Canadian militia, and the United States Armed Forces for a brief period. The fort was mostly destroyed during the War of 1812. The site of the fort has been a National Historic Site of Canada since 1921, and features a reconstruction of Fort George. The British established Fort George in the 1790s to replace Fort Niagara. Many of its structures were demolished in May 1813, during the Battle of Fort George. After the battle, American forces occupied the fort for seven months before withdrawing in December 1813. Although the British regained the fort shortly afterwards, little effort was put into its reconstruction after they captured Fort Niagara the following week.
