Nguyễn Minh Phụng (born 22 January 1991) is a Vietnamese karateka. He won the silver medal in the men's kumite +84 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the final, he lost against Sajjad Ganjzadeh Sajjad Ganjzadeh ( fa, سجاد گنجزاده, also Romanized as "Sajjād Ganjzādeh"; born 4 January 1992 in Tehran) is an Iranian karateka. Competing in the above 84 kg kumite division he won gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, 2014 an ... of Iran. In 2017, he won the gold medal in the men's +75kg event and the men's team kumite event at the Southeast Asian Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Kumite ( ja, 組手, literally "grappling hands") is one of the three main sections of karate training, along with kata and kihon. Kumite is the part of karate in which a person trains against an adversary. Kumite can be used to develop a particular technique or a skill (e.g. effectively judging and adjusting one's distance from one's opponent) or it can be done in competition. Types Since the word "kumite" refers to forms of sparring, it covers a vast range of activities. In traditional Shotokan karate, the first type of kumite for beginners is ''gohon kumite''. The defender steps back each time, blocking the attacks and performing a counterattack after the last block.
