Ngan Chau, Islands District
A ngan ( th, งาน, , ) is a unit of area, equal to 400 square metres (20 m × 20 m), used for measuring land or property area. Its current size is precisely derived from the metre, but is neither part of nor recognized by the modern metric system, the International System (SI). The ngan equals 1/4 rai or 100 tarang wa ( th, ตารางวา) ''aka'' square wa ( th, วา), very nearly 1/10 of an acre. ''Ngan'' also means ''work''. It is commonly used in Thailand and equals four are, another unit based on the metre and as commonly used in several countries recognized though not encouraged by the SI. As for many terms normally written in Thai alphabet, transliteration into English language caused a spelling variant, ''ngaan''. Peng Chau is a small island located off the north-eastern coast of Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It is known locally for its temples, fishing industry and seafood. Geography Peng Chau has an area of and a perimeter of about . The tallest point of the island is Finger Hill (手指山), which is in height. In 2003, the island underwent land degradation restorative work. Administration Politically, Peng Chau is part of Peng Chau & Hei Ling Chau constituency of the Islands District Council. The executive branch of the government of the island included department of the Islands District Office of the Home Affairs Department. The local police station belongs to the Cheung Chau Division of the Marine Police. Round Island or Ngan Chau () is an island in Hong Kong. Administratively part of the Southern District, the island has an area of km2. An unmanned navigational beacon was constructed on the island in 1972. Geology Round Island has a hilly terrain. The island's highest point is 49 metres over the sea. It stretches 0.6 km in north–south direction, and 0.5 km in east–west direction. Climate The climate in the area is temperate. The yearly mean temperature in the region is 21 °C. The warmest month is August, when the mean temperature is 24 °C, and the coldest is February at 16 °C. The average yearly precipitation is 2150 mm. The rainiest month is May, with in average 538 mm precipitation, and the driest month is October, with 18 mm precipitation.
