Newslaundry
''Newslaundry'' is an Indian media watchdog that provides media critique, reportage and satirical commentary. It was founded in 2012 by Abhinandan Sekhri, Madhu Trehan and Prashant Sareen, all of whom earlier worked in print or television journalism. It was India's first subscription-driven website when launched, and since then other platforms have followed a similar model. In contrast to news websites such as ''The Wire'', ''The Quint'', ''ThePrint'' or ''Scroll.in'', ''Newslaundry'' solely relies on public subscriptions, instead of donations or advertisements, for revenue. In 2015, executive editor Manisha Pande and Sandeep Pai reported on how the politicians misuse the public sector undertakings in India. Abhinandan Sekhri
Abhinandan Sekhri (born 4 August 1974) is the co-founder and CEO of ''Newslaundry'', a media critique, news and current affairs website. Education Sekhri was educated at The Doon School in Dehradun, India, and then obtained a bachelor's degree in economics from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Career Before founding Newslaundry, he worked as a producer, director and writer in television and film projects, including ''Highway on my Plate'', which he co-produced and directed; and news-satire show ''Gustaakhi Maaf''. He is also a co-founder and trustee in Delhi-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) PCRF. He was the executive producer for ''Chase'', a documentary series by ScoopWhoop. He regularly delivers lectures and hosts panel discussions on journalism, RTI, and the importance and independence of media. ''The Quint'' is an English and Hindi language Indian general news and opinion website founded by Raghav Bahl and Ritu Kapur after their exit from Network18. The publication's journalists have won three Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards and two Red Ink Awards. History In May 2014, Raghav Bahl and Ritu Kapur, the promoters of Network18 ended their shareholding of the media conglomerate with the takeover by Reliance Industries. Following the controversial exit, they founded the digital media company, Quintillion Media. The company was the first major investor in the tech startup Quintype founded by Amit Rathore. ''The Wire'' is an Indian nonprofit news and opinion website which publishes in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Urdu. It was founded in 2015 by Siddharth Varadarajan, Sidharth Bhatia, and M. K. Venu. The publication's reporters have won several national and international awards, including three Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards and the CPJ International Press Freedom Award. It has also been subject to several defamation suits by businessmen and politicians. Madhu Trehan
Madhu Purie Trehan (born 1940s) is an Indian journalist. She is also the co-founder and editor-in-chief of a digital media portal called ''Newslaundry''. Education Trehan studied at Welham Girls' School in Dehradun, graduating in 1962. In 1968, she went to Harrow Technical College & School of Arts in London to study journalistic photography. She earned a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University, New York in 1972. While in New York City, she worked at the United Nations in their press department, and served as an editor for a weekly newspaper, ''India Abroad''. Career Trehan returned to India in 1975 when she founded and started the news magazine ''India Today'', with her father, V.V.Purie, owner of Thomson Press. ''The Caravan'' is an Indian English-language, long-form narrative journalism magazine covering politics and culture. History In 1940, Vishwa Nath launched ''Caravan'' as the first magazine from the Delhi Press; it went on to establish itself as a leading monthly for the elites but closed in 1988. The Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards (RNG Awards) are one of the awards in India in the field of journalism. India Today (formerly Headlines Today) is a 24-hour English language television network based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh that carries news, current affairs and business programming in India. The channel is owned by TV Today Network Ltd, which is a part of Living Media. History The channel was launched in 2003 as a sister channel of the Hindi Aaj Tak news channel.
