Greene County is a county located on the eastern border of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 70,152. Its county seat is Greeneville. Greene County comprises the Greeneville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Greene County developed from the "Nolichucky settlement," established by pioneer Jacob Brown on land leased in the early 1770s from the Cherokee people. The Nolichucky settlement was aligned with the Watauga settlement, centered in modern Elizabethton. After the United States became independent, Greene County was formed in 1783 from the original Washington County, North Carolina, part of the former Washington District. The county is named for Major General Nathanael Greene (1742-1786), a major general in the Continental Army from Rhode Island. State Route 93 (SR 93) is a state highway in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It begins at US 11E/US 321 in Greeneville and ending at the Tennessee–Virginia state line in Bloomingdale, Tennessee.http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/SR93/ Route description SR 93 begins at an intersection with US 11E/US 321 in Greeneville. It then heads northeast toward Kingsport. The route intersects SR 81 just south of Fall Branch and heads more northerly. State Route 351 (SR 351) is a state highway in Greene County, Tennessee. It begins at State Routes 70 and 107 in southern Greene County and ends at State Route 93 in northern Greene County. It forms a half loop around Greeneville and Tusculum. Route description SR 351 begins at a y-intersection with SR 70 and SR 107 near South Greene. It goes northeast as State Route 107 cutoff, where it winds its way through farmland, running parallel to the Nolichucky River, to have an intersection with SR 350. SR 351 continues northeast to become concurrent with SR 107, where it becomes known as Erwin Highway as they turn southeast. They pass through rural areas before SR 351 splits off at a y-intersection as Chuckey Pike.
