Abraham Newland (c. 1730 – 21 November 1807) was the chief cashier at the Bank of England from 1782 to 1807. John Newlands (Australian Politician)
Sir John Newlands (4 August 1864 – 20 May 1932), also known as John Newland, was a Scottish-born Australian politician. Born in Cawdor, Nairnshire, Newlands was the son of Andrew Newlands, agricultural labourer, and his wife Ann, ''née'' Stunar. Newlands was educated in Croy, Scotland before migrating to New South Wales, Australia in 1883. He married Theresa Glassey on 27 February 1884 in Adelaide, and that year began to use Newland as his surname. He became a railway worker, also in 1884, initially as a lamp cleaner and porter. While a conductor on the Broken Hill express, he and a fellow-conductor developed a gambling system that so impressed a group of mining magnates that they bankrolled a trip for the two to Monte Carlo. Fortune eluded them however, and they returned to Adelaide with a new respect for mathematics. Simpson Newland
Simpson Newland CMG (2 November 1835 – 27 June 1925), pastoralist, author and politician, was a pioneer in Australia who made significant contributions to development around the Murray River. He was also an author of practical works and novels. Early years Newland was born in Hanley, Staffordshire, a son of Rev. Ridgway William Newland (died 1864) and his wife Martha Newland, née Keeling (died 1870), who emigrated with their eight children to South Australia aboard the ''Sir Charles Forbes'', arriving in June 1839. He and his siblings were educated to a high standard at home by their mother. Simpson Newland was at first a sickly boy, but the open air life improved his health, and he became a competent stockrider and bushman. Ridgway William Newland

Ridgway William Newland (c. 1788 – 8 March 1864), frequently spelled "Ridgeway", was an English Congregationalist minister who with his large family emigrated to the young colony of South Australia, where he had a considerable influence in the Encounter Bay district. Many of his descendants were important in the history of the State. He has been called "The father of the South". History Newland was the minister of an Independent (as Congregationalists frequently called themselves) church of Hanley, in the Staffordshire Potteries region of England, for around 25 years. Richard Francis Newland
Richard Francis Newland (died 1 August 1873) was a banker and politician in the colony of South Australia, appointed as an acting non-official member of the Legislative Council of South Australia, serving from January 1847 to July 1847. History Newland was manager of the Sydney branch of the Bank of Australasia and in January 1839 was appointed to the same position at the Adelaide branch of the Bank. He resigned in 1843, and at the urging of Hon. John Baker took up a sheep station either on the River Gilbert or the River Light, where he had a flock of 12,000 sheep, whose wool commanded record prices. He was appointed to the Legislative Council in January 1847 while John Morphett was absent on leave. He succeeded Samuel Davenport as appointed non-official member of the Legislative Council. Richard Newland (cricketer)
Richard Newland (1713–1778) was an English cricketer of the mid-Georgian period who played for Slindon and Sussex under the patronage of Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond. He also represented various England teams and, in some matches, led his own select team. The eldest of three cricketing brothers, he is generally recognised as one of cricket's greatest early players and has been called a pioneer of the sport. Newland is cricket's earliest known left-handed batter. He is remembered as a great all-rounder who was proclaimed "The Champion" in a famous poem by James Love. Despite his fame, nothing is known of his bowling arm, style or pace except that he used an underarm action. Marv Newland (March 9, 1947) is an American-Canadian filmmaker, specialized in animation. Career Newland began a career making animated motion pictures in Los Angeles with the creation of the short ''Bambi Meets Godzilla'' (1969). He then designed and animated television commercials until late 1970 when he moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While in Toronto (1970–1972) he designed, directed and animated television commercials for Sesame Street and Educational Television, and segments for longer films. Newland was also one of two designers and storyboard artists on the Cinera Productions cartoon '' Super Joe'' (1971). John Newland (November 23, 1917 – January 10, 2000) was an American director, actor, television producer, and screenwriter. Early life and career Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Newland began his career in vaudeville while still in his teens. After moving to New York City to study acting, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he signed with Warner Bros. but was limited to playing bit parts. James Newland
James Ernest Newland, VC (22 August 1881 – 19 March 1949) was an Australian soldier, policeman and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces. Newland was awarded the Victoria Cross following three separate actions in April 1917, during attacks against German forces retreating to the Hindenburg Line. While in command of a company, Newland successfully led his men in several assaults on German positions and repulsed subsequent counter-attacks. Born in the Victorian town of Highton, Newland joined the Australian military in 1899 and saw active service during the Second Boer War.
