Route 11 is a north-south highway located on the Avalon Peninsula of the island of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It connects the town of Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove with Goulds and St. John's Route description Route 11 begins as Petty Harbour Road in Goulds at an intersection with Route 10. It heads east up a narrow valley through neighbourhoods to leave Goulds and cross over a lake and wind its way through some mountains. The Avalon Peninsula (french: Péninsule d'Avalon) is a large peninsula that makes up the southeast portion of the island of Newfoundland. It is in size. Route 10, also known as the eastern portion of the Irish Loop Drive and the Southern Shore Highway, is a uncontrolled-access highway in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its southern terminus is at Route 90 in St. Vincent's-St. Stephen's-Peter's River, and its northern terminus is at Route 2 and The Parkway in St. John's. The route is in Division No. 1 and winds along the southern and eastern coasts of Avalon Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland. Petty Harbour Generating Station
The Petty Harbour Hydro Electric Generating Station is a hydroelectric generating station in Petty Harbour–Maddox Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was constructed in 1898 and it was the first hydroelectric generating station in Newfoundland. It was built by the St. John's Street Railway Company, a company established by Robert Reid. Operation commenced on 19 April 1900. In 1920 Reid renamed the company the St. John's Light and Power Company. On 7 February 1921, an avalanche destroyed of the wooden penstock that carried water from the dam to the generating station, cutting off all electrical power to St. John's for almost five days. Then, in 1924, the plant changed ownership to the Royal Securities Corporation of Montreal, where they began extensive reconstruction of the plant and watershed area. Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, located in the Trinity-Conception Bay District north of Carbonear.
