New Field
Winchester College Ground is a cricket ground in Winchester, Hampshire. The ground is the historic grounds of Winchester College, with evidence suggesting cricket in Winchester dates back to the 17th century. The present ground, which is also known as New Field or Ridding Field, dates from 1869 when the then headmaster George Ridding bought land south of "meads" and donated it to the college. In 1875, the ground held was is to date the only first-class match to be played there when Hampshire played Kent in 1875. Hampshire, who were captained by Clement Booth, were dismissed for just 34 in their first-innings. In response, Kent were dismissed for 333, giving them a lead of 299. Hampshire fared little better in their second-innings, making just 82 to lose the match by an innings and 217 runs. Newfields is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village within the town of Newfields, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 378 at the 2020 census, out of 1,769 in the entire town. Geography The CDP is on the eastern edge of the town of Newfields, along the west side of the Squamscott River, which forms the town line with Stratham. The CDP extends south along the river to Parting Brook and north along it to an unnamed brook west of New Hampshire Route 108. To the west the CDP reaches to the east end of Meadow Road at New Hampshire Route 87. New Hampshire Route 85 passes through the center of the community as Main Street; it leads northeast to Route 108 and south to the center of Exeter. Durham is to the north via Routes 85 and 108. Newfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 759 at the 2010 census. Newfield Hamlet lies near the center of the town of Newfield and is located southwest of Ithaca. It was incorporated as a village in 1895. On September 21, 1926, local residents voted in favor of dissolution. Final sale and transfer of assets and services to the Town of Newfield took place on March 21, 1927 when the Village of Newfield Board of Trustees held their last meeting. Newfield is a town in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 5,184 at the 2020 census. The town's name is derived from the many unoccupied tracts of land that were once in the town. The Town of Newfield is in the southwest part of the county and is southwest of Ithaca, New York. History Newfield was formed, before Tompkins County was created, from the Town of Spencer (in Tioga County) in 1811 as the "Town of Cayuta." In 1822, the town assumed its current name. 19th Century Willowbrook Village was an open-air museum encompassing a former 19th-century village in Newfield, Maine. It is located north of the town center on Elm Street, on approximately , with 34 buildings. It was open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 5 days each week from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through October, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Much of the museum property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Newfield (Willowbrook) Historic District. Description and history Willowbrook Village is located just south of Chellis Brook, and north of the village center. It includes a mill pond that was made by damming the brook, and a collection of buildings located both north and south of the pond. Newfield is a town in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,648 at the 2020 census. The town is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford metropolitan statistical area. Newfield is home to a museum called Willowbrook Museum Village. History This was part of the large tract sold on November 28, 1668, by Newichawannock Indian Chief Sunday (or Wesumbe) to Francis Small, a Kittery trader. The price was two large Indian blankets, two gallons of rum, two pounds of gunpowder, four pounds of musket balls and twenty strings of beads. The township was surveyed and first settled as Washington Plantation in 1778. A number of settlers had been soldiers in the Revolutionary War.
