Newcomb Carlton
Newcomb Carlton (1869–1953) was an American telecommunications executive. He served as president of Western Union and in 1918, when the telegraph industry was placed under government control, as director of all cable lines in the United States. In 1933, he became chairman of the company. He travelled extensively as part of his job. In 1926 he was injured when he was hit by a taxi. Brackets
A bracket is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Evergreen Cemetery (Hillside, New Jersey)
Evergreen Cemetery and Crematory is a cemetery and crematorium located at 1137 North Broad Street, Hillside, Union County, New Jersey. Parts of it are in Hillside, Elizabeth, and Newark. The cemetery is listed on both the New Jersey Register and the National Register of Historic Places, since 1991. Notable graves include authors Stephen Crane, Mary Mapes Dodge and Edward Stratemeyer. Six former U.S. Congressmen (including one who became Senator) and one non-voting delegate (from Alaska) are buried there as well. The cemetery also is known for having a section of plots devoted to Romani "gypsy" families. It is adjacent to Weequahic Golf Course. ''King of the Gypsies'' was filmed there with Shelley Winters. Hillside, New Jersey
Hillside is a township in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States census, the township's population was 21,404, reflecting a decline of 343 (−1.6%) from the 21,747 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 703 (+3.3%) from the 21,044 counted in the 1990 Census. Western Union
The Western Union Company is an American multinational financial services company, headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1851 as the New York and Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Company in Rochester, New York, the company changed its name to the Western Union Telegraph Company in 1856 after merging with several other telegraph companies. The company dominated the American telegraphy industry from the 1860s to the 1980s, pioneering technology such as telex and developing a range of telegraph-related services (including wire money transfer) in addition to its core business of transmitting and delivering telegram messages. After experiencing financial difficulties, Western Union began to move its business away from communications in the 1980s and increasingly focused on its money transfer services.
