Newcastle Upon Tyne Youth Council
Newcastle Youth Council is a local government advisory body in Newcastle upon Tyne. Its function is to represent the views of young people between the ages of 11 and 18 in the city and to improve the quality of life for younger children. History Following a resolution passed by Newcastle City Council in 2009, the first elections to the Youth Council were organised in the summer of 2010 by the West End Youth Enquiry Service, part of the charity Children North East. That service had won a contract with the City Council to establish a democratically elected organisation which would "challenge, influence and work with" city decision makers "to improve the lives of young people and make the City a more young person friendly to live". Newcastle upon Tyne ( RP: , ), or simply Newcastle, is a city and metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear, England. Newcastle City Council
Newcastle City Council is the local government authority for the city and metropolitan borough of Newcastle upon Tyne. The council consists of 78 councillors, three for each of the 26 wards in the city. It is currently controlled by the Labour Party, led by Nick Kemp. Karen Robinson serves as the Lord Mayor and Veronica Dunn serves as Deputy Lord Mayor and Sheriff. The council is a member of the North of Tyne Combined Authority. Children North East
Children North East is a registered charity based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The focus of the charity is to provide help and funding, through community based projects, to families, children and young people in the region who are experiencing a range of problems and difficulties in their lives. In 2011, the organisation celebrated 120 years old which makes it the oldest independent children's charity in the North East of England. History The organisation was founded in 1891 by John H Watson, a local philanthropist and John L Lunn, a wealthy shipping merchant, in the north east city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Sir Robert William Robson (18 February 1933 – 31 July 2009) was an English footballer and football manager. His career included periods playing for and later managing the England national team and being a UEFA Cup-winning manager at Ipswich Town. Robson's professional playing career as an inside forward spanned nearly 20 years, during which he played for three clubs: Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, and, briefly, Vancouver Royals. Sheriff Of Newcastle
The office of Sheriff of Newcastle upon Tyne existed from until local government reorganisation in , and was reintroduced in as a title held additionally by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne. The city has a sheriff because it was historically a county corporate. In 1950 Violet Grantham became the first woman to hold the office (becoming the first female Lord Mayor two years later), and in 2019 Councillor Habib Rahman became the first BAME person to hold the office.
