Newark Browns
The Newark Browns were a Negro league baseball team in the East-West League, based in Bloomfield, New Jersey, in 1932. They played their home games at General Electric Field. 1932 season The Browns were the final team to join the East-West League in March 1932. They were managed by John Beckwith. On April 13, the Browns' roster was announced, featuring outfielders Paul Arnold, Willie Gray, and Oscar Johnson, infielders Earl Davis, Frank McCoy and Jasper Washington, and pitchers Chet Brewer, Percy Miller and Nip Winters. Early in the season, two pitchers and infielder Dick Seay all jumped from the Browns to other clubs in the league. Their first league game was against the Baltimore Black Sox on May 28. Percy Miller (pitcher)
Percy Miller (January 28, 1897 – January 14, 1958), nicknamed "Dimps", was an American Negro league pitcher and manager in the 1920s and 1930s. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Miller made his Negro leagues debut in 1921 with the Chicago Giants. He went on to enjoy a long career with several teams, and finished his career as player-manager of the Detroit Stars in 1937. The Hilldale Athletic Club (informally known as Darby Daisies) were an American professional Negro league baseball, Negro league baseball team based in Darby, Pennsylvania, west of Philadelphia. Established as a boys team in 1910, the Hilldales were developed by their early manager, then owner Ed Bolden to be one of the powerhouse Negro league baseball teams. They won the first three Eastern Colored League pennants beginning in 1923 and in 1925 won the 1925 Colored World Series, second Colored World Series. National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Hall of Fame player Judy Johnson was a Hilldale regular for most its professional era with 12 seasons in 15 years (1918–1932). Dick Seay
Richard William Seay (November 30, 1904 – April 6, 1981) was an American Negro league baseball player who played from 1925 to 1947 for the Brooklyn Royal Giants, Newark Stars, Baltimore Black Sox, Philadelphia Stars, Newark Eagles, Pittsburgh Crawfords, and New York Black Yankees. Seay was born in West New York, New Jersey, and died in Jersey City, New Jersey. He started his baseball career with the independent Pennsylvania Red Caps of New York, where he played shortstop alongside second baseman Chino Smith. Both Seay and Smith went to play professionally in the Negro leagues. Seay also served in the military during World War II from 1943 to 1944.
