State Highway 10 (SH 10) is a road in the Far North District of the North Island of New Zealand. Both ends of the road adjoin . With the exception of SH 1, it is the country's northernmost state highway. Route SH 10 begins at a junction with SH 1 near Pakaraka, east of Ōhaeawai, and initially runs north to pass Kerikeri and Paihia to the west (the latter accessed via ). Passing the Bay of Islands, the road turns to the north-west and reaches the coast at Whangaroa Harbour, then heads inland again before meeting the coast once more at the Taipa-Mangonui settlements. From there it runs west-south-west to its terminus at a junction with SH 1 at Awanui, north of Kaitaia. As with several roads in the Far North District, the highway is prone to flooding at some times of the year. Heavy rains in August 2012 caused major subsidence to undermine parts of the highway near Kaeo, which required substantial repair. The road is narrow in places, due to the nature of the landscape a ...

Whangaroa
Whangaroa is a settlement on Whangaroa Harbour in the Far North District of New Zealand. It is 8 km north-west of Kaeo and 35 km north-west of Kerikeri. The harbour is almost landlocked and is popular both as a fishing spot in its own right and as a base for deep-sea fishing. History The harbour was the scene of one of the most notorious incidents in early New Zealand history, the Boyd massacre. In December 1809 almost all the crew and 70 passengers were killed as ''utu'' (revenge) for the mistreatment of Te Ara, the son of a Ngāti Uru chief, who had been in the crew of the ship. Several days later the ship was burnt out after gunpowder was accidentally ignited. Relics of the ''Boyd'' are now in a local museum. On 16 July 1824 on a voyage to Sydney from Tahiti, the crew and passengers of the colonial schooner ''Endeavour'' (Capt John Dibbs) stopped in Whangaroa Harbour. An altercation with the local Māori Ngāti Pou hapū (subtribe) of the Ngā Puhi iwi resulted in ...

Kerikeri Airport
Kerikeri Airport , also known as Bay of Islands Airport, is an airport at Kerikeri, New Zealand. It is about a three-hour drive from Auckland and a 45-minute flight from Auckland Airport. History The airport was initially a grass airstrip created in the early 1930s or possibly earlier. During World War II the airport was taken over by the Defence Department for Royal New Zealand Air Force training. After the war ended it was once again run by local government. In 1972, Mount Cook Airlines decided to use the airport to connect to tourist resorts. The service failed through lack of patronage. A Kerikeri-Auckland route was started by the airline but was not widely used. It was not until 1992, after the transfer of the airport to Northern Airports Corporation (now merged into Far North Holdings Ltd), that Eagle Airways (a subsidiary of Air New Zealand) took over scheduled service and patronage on the route increased. Eagle Airways ceased its Kerikeri service in 2015 and was replac ...
