New Zealand NBL Rookie Of The Year Award
The National Basketball League Youth Player of the Year is an annual National Basketball League (NBL) award given in various iterations since the 1986 New Zealand NBL season to the best performing young New Zealander of the regular season. The award was originally known as Young Player of the Year from 1986 until 1991. Between 1992 and 2004, the award was called Rookie of the Year. A slight adjustment to the rules saw the Young Player of the Year return in 2005. The award changed back to Rookie of the Year in 2006 and remained every year until it was not awarded in 2017. Rookie of the Year returned in 2018 but was then replaced by Youth Player of the Year in 2019 and has remained since. The 2011 Rookie of the Year, Steven Adams, went on to make the NBA. He is the half-brother of two-time Young Player of the Year, Warren Adams. The National Basketball League (NBL) is a men's semi-professional basketball league in New Zealand. In 1981, a group of club and provincial teams came together to create a men's national basketball league. The following year, the league was brought under the management of the New Zealand Basketball Federation. The Hutt Valley Lakers were a New Zealand basketball team based in Hutt Valley, Wellington. The Lakers competed in the National Basketball League (NBL). Team history The Hutt Valley Lakers started in the second-tiered Conference Basketball League (CBL). After winning the CBL championship in 1989, the team was promoted to the National Basketball League (NBL) for the 1990 season. 1997 New Zealand NBL Season
The 1997 NBL season was the 16th season of the National Basketball League. Basketball in New Zealand began to dwindle during the 1990s, with TV coverage reduced, sponsorships scarce, and crowd numbers on the decline. At the end of the 1996 season, with both Wellington and Hutt Valley struggling to survive, the two teams amalgamated for the 1997 season. Auckland won the championship in 1997 to claim their fifth league title, as they became the first team in league history to record a three-peat. Auckland had a near-perfect season, with their only loss in 24 regular-season games coming against Canterbury at Cowles Stadium when American import Adrian Boyd was called for a contentious travelling call while going for an uncontested lay-up in the game's final seconds. Harbour Heat
The Harbour Heat were a New Zealand basketball team based in Auckland. The Heat competed in the National Basketball League (NBL) and played their home games at North Shore Events Centre. Team history The Harbour Heat, then known as North Shore, started in the second-tiered Conference Basketball League (CBL). After winning the CBL Northern championship in 1985, the team was promoted to the National Basketball League (NBL) for the 1986 season. North Shore reached their first NBL final in 1988, where they lost 81–78 to the Wellington Saints. In 1998, as the North Harbour Kings, the team reached their second NBL final, where they lost 81–73 to the Nelson Giants. The 1996 NBL season was the 15th season of the National Basketball League. Only one change occurred heading into the 1996 season, with Waitakere leaving the NBL for the second-tiered Conference Basketball League (CBL). Auckland won the championship in 1996 to claim their fourth league title. In the best-of-three championship series, Nelson took Game 1 110–95, before Auckland came back to take Game 2 109–98 and Game 3 94–90. Only one change occurred heading into the 1995 season, with 1994 Conference Basketball League (CBL) champions Northland joining the top-flight league for the first time. Konrad Ross (basketball)
Konrad Ross (born 9 January 1970) is a South African born German artist best known for his large scale oil stick drawings on paper. His art is notable for the distortions and imperfections that reveal the creative process. His works frequently incorporate fragments of his own body as motifs. He is also known for using his hands, arms, feet and face in the creation of his works. Early life and career Ross was born in South Africa where he attended primary and high school, but moved to Germany with his family at the age of 17, where he completed his secondary schooling. The Otago Nuggets are a New Zealand basketball team based in Dunedin. The Nuggets compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at the Edgar Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Night 'n Day Otago Nuggets. Team history The Nuggets entered the National Basketball League (NBL) for the first time in 1990. Mark Dickel
Mark Robert Dickel (born 21 December 1976) is a New Zealand-Australian former professional basketball player and coach. Early years Dickel attended Logan Park High School in Dunedin, New Zealand. In 1993, he joined the Otago Nuggets of the New Zealand National Basketball League and played there until 1996 when he left for college in the United States. In 1998 off-season, following the conclusion of his sophomore season, Dickel joined the Wellington Saints for the 1998 New Zealand NBL season. College career Dickel played college basketball at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from 1996 to 2000, tying for the team lead in assists his freshman year of 1996–97 and leading the team in that category in his remaining three seasons. In his senior year of 1999–2000, his 9.0 assists per game led NCAA Division I men's basketball, and he finished his career third on the school's all-time list for total assists.
