New Zealand At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
New Zealand competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England, from 28 July to 8 August 2022. It is New Zealand's 22nd appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. New Zealand finished fifth on the medal table, winning a total of 50 medals, 20 of which were gold. This makes these games New Zealand's best performance ever in terms of gold medals, beating the 17 won in Auckland at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, but third overall in terms of total medals, with 50, behind the 58 in 1990, and the 53 at the Games also in Auckland. Tom Walsh and Joelle King served as the country's flagbearers during the opening ceremony. The flagbearer at the closing ceremony was cyclist Aaron Gate, who won four gold medals at the Games. Swimming was among the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, England. The sport had been staged in all twenty-one previous editions of the Games thus far, and will be contested in England for the third time. The competition took place between 29 July and 3 August 2022, spread across fifty-two events (including twelve parasport events). For the first time, visually impaired swimming was held at the Commonwealth Games. Rebecca Petch
Rebecca Petch (born 9 July 1998) is a New Zealand cyclist who competes in BMX Racing and track cycling. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Women's BMX race. From Te Awamutu, Petch started riding BMX aged 3. At the UCI BMX World Championships she came 15th at Rock Hill in 2017, she finished 11th in Baku in 2018, and 25th in Heusden-Zolder in 2019. On 17 June 2021, Petch was selected in her country's Olympic squad as New Zealand's sole BMX rider for the delayed Tokyo 2020 Summer Games. Cycling at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was held between 29 July and 7 August 2022 at four different venues. There were 26 events altogether in cycling, making the sport third-highestt in terms of number of medals available. There were 20 events in track cycling (including four for para-cycling), two in mountain biking, two in road time trials and two in road racing. Campbell Stewart (born 12 May 1998) is a New Zealand professional track and road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam .
