New Young SC
New Youngs SC is a Sri Lankan professional football club based in Wennappuwa. They play in the highest domestic football league, the Sri Lanka Champions League. The club was established by Rohitha Fernando in Wennappuwa. In 1990 the club finished as champions of the third division. In 1994 they emerged as second division champions, a feat they repeated in 1996, which led to the team's promotion to the first division. In 2005 New Youngs SC reached the semi-final of the national FA Cup, where they were defeated 2–0 by Saunders SC Saunders SC is a Sri Lankan professional football club based in the Pettah district of Colombo. Wennappuwa
Wennappuwa is a town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is north of Negombo. The village of Wennappuwa is mentioned in the Culavamsa as a small farming hamlet. History A church made of wattle and daub, consecrated to St. Joseph, was put up in Gangoda in 1850. Very Rev. Fr. Contentious Chounavel (OMI) a French Missionary and the founder of the church arrived at Wennappuwa between 1861 and 1863 A.D. 300 families lived there at the time. His intention was to gather those families whose faith was strong and visible, under one roof. The roads were coming up and he realized that a new church should be built by the main road in order to accommodate the growth. The brother of Utuwankande Sura Saradiel of Mawanella lived with his family at Haldanduwana and learnt sculpture under Rev. Fr. Chounavel, the Parish Priest of Haldanduwana and a master of sculpture. Sri Lanka Champions League
The S1 League ( si, එස්1 ලීගය; ta, எஸ்1 லீக்), or simply S1, also known as Sri Lanka Champions League, is the second tier division of the Sri Lankan football league system and was succeeded by the professional Sri Lanka Super League which serves as the first division. Until 2019 it was sponsored by Dialog Axiata and was thus officially known as the Dialog Champions League. The league was conducted in various formats. Apart from the league system, a playoff stage was included in 2013–14 season. Currently, 18 clubs are participating in the tournament. Saunders have won the most titles in the league, winning 12 titles. Rathnam have won the title 5 times, Renown 4 times, and Colombo 3 times.
