New York State Route 322
New York State Route 322 (NY 322) is a state highway in the Southern Tier of New York in the United States. The western terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 83 in Balcom Corners, a hamlet within the Chautauqua County town of Villenova. Its eastern terminus is at a junction with U.S. Route 62 (US 62) in the Cattaraugus County town of Dayton. In between, the route passes through the village of South Dayton. NY 322 was assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York to its current alignment. Originally, maintenance of the Cattaraugus County portion of the route was split between the village of South Dayton and the county, the latter of which co-designated the highway as County Route 3 (CR 3). The state of New York assumed ownership and maintenance of the Cattaraugus County segment in 1980 as part of a highway maintenance swap between the state, the county, and South Dayton. Villenova is a town in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 1,053 at the 2020 census. The town is on the eastern border of the county and is southeast of Dunkirk. History The area that would become Villenova was first settled ''circa'' 1809. The town of Villenova was formed from part of the town of Hanover in 1823. Signed state highways in New York, referred to as "touring routes" by the New York State Department of Transportation, are numbered from 1 to 899. A large number of Unsigned highway, unsigned state highways, known as "reference route (New York), reference routes", are numbered from 900 to 999 and carry a suffix. Four reference routes have been signed as touring routes and as such are listed on this page. County routes in Cattaraugus County, New York, are signed with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices-standard yellow-on-blue pentagon route marker. A handful of pre-MUTCD black-on-yellow rectangular markers still exist on the most remote county road intersections (Cattaraugus County did not switch to the MUTCD markers until the late 1990s). New York State Route 241
New York State Route 241 (NY 241) is a north–south state highway in Cattaraugus County, New York, in the United States. The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 394 in the hamlet of Randolph and its northern terminus is at a junction with U.S. Route 62 (US 62) in the town of Conewango. Today, NY 241 is little more than a connector between the two highways; however, when it was first assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York, it extended north to then-NY 18 in Dayton. The portion of NY 241 north of Conewango was incorporated into an extension of US 62 , and NY 241 was truncated in the late 1940s to eliminate the overlap with US 62. General Drafting Corporation of Convent Station, New Jersey, founded by Otto G. Lindberg in 1909, was one of the "Big Three" road map publishers in the United States from 1930 to 1970, along with H.M. Gousha and Rand McNally.General Drafting Co., Inc. company brochure, 1982. Unlike the other two, General Drafting did not sell its maps to a variety of smaller customers, but was the exclusive publisher of maps for Standard Oil of New Jersey, later Esso and Exxon. Conewango Creek
Conewango Creek is a tributary of the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania and western New York in the United States. The creek's drainage covers much of southeastern Chautauqua County, New York, and western Cattaraugus County, New York. The creek's most notable tributary is the Chadakoin River, which supplies the creek water from Chautauqua Lake. The Chautauqua Ridge, a continental divide bounds the watershed to the north and west.
