New York Nemesis
The New York Nemesis were a women's tackle football team playing out of the Capital District, New York, Capital District of New York (state), New York. It was a member of the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), a league with over 30 teams across the United States. The Nemesis played in the Northern Conference, with home games on the campus of Schenectady High School in Schenectady, New York, Schenectady. The team was owned by ten year women's football veteran Carley Pesente, who is also a ranked professional boxer. She put together a strong management team led by GM Diane Wilkinson, and Alana Graziano Assistant GM and Team Delegate, both veterans to the game of football. After the 2010, IWFL season and since then, nothing has ever been heard of the Nemesis. Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. Montreal Blitz
The Montreal Blitz is a women's gridiron football team, founded in 2001, which plays Canadian football in the Central Canadian Women's Football League. Previously, the team played American football in the Independent Women's Football League (2001–2016) and in the Women's Football Alliance (in 2017). They are based at Dalbé-Viau High School in the borough of Lachine, in Montreal, Quebec. The Blitz were the only Canadian team in a women's American football league. The team won four championships in the IWFL, at various levels. Their highest achievement came in 2012, when they beat the Sacramento Sirens 28–27 to become World Champions of the IWFL. Baltimore Nighthawks
The Baltimore Nighthawks are a women's American football team in the Women's Football Alliance. The Nighthawks played their inaugural game in Brooklandville at Martin D. Tullai Field (adjacent to St. Paul's School). The Nighthawks played the remainder of their home season at the Baltimore Lutheran School in Towson. The Baltimore Nighthawks support several charitable organizations including Healthcare for the Homeless, Special Olympics MD through the annual Polar Bear Plunge, various breast cancer groups, and the Central MD Girl Scouts. On March 21, 2009, the Nighthawks made women's football history when they hosted the first Pink Ribbon Bowl. The goal was to raise awareness about breast cancer and introduce professional women's tackle football to a broader audience. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Susan G. The Connecticut Crushers were a women's American football team based in Hartford, and were a member of the Independent Women's Football League since 2009. Home games were played at Dillon Stadium. Prior to 2009, the team was known as the Connecticut Crush and played in the National Women's Football Association. Boston Militia
The Boston Militia were a women's full-contact football team in the Women's Football Alliance of which they were two-time champions (2011, 2014). Previously, the Militia played in the Independent Women's Football League from 2008 until 2010, winning the IWFL championship in 2010. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the Militia played its home games at Dilboy Stadium in nearby Somerville. On January 5, 2015, the team announced they were discontinuing operations due to a lack of teams to play against in the region. Pittsburgh Passion
The Pittsburgh Passion is a women's American football team based in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The franchise was formed in March 2002 and is currently owned by Teresa Conn, Anthony Misitano, and the estate of Franco Harris. The team is a part of the Women's Football Alliance, with home games played at West Allegheny High School in Imperial, Pennsylvania. History In 2003, the Passion played its home games at Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Belle Vernon Area High School. The team finished its inaugural season with a 2–6 record. The average attendance at each of their four home games that season was between 2,500 and 3,000 fans. In 2004 season, the Passion changed its home stadium to Ambridge High School's Rubenstein Stadium, Moe Rubenstein Stadium.
