New York Islanders Players
The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team based in Uniondale, New York, United States. They are members of the Metropolitan Division of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Eastern Conference. The Islanders franchise has been a part of the NHL since their inception in 1972, playing their home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, at the Barclays Center, and at UBS Arena. Nearly 500 players have played for the team for at least one regular season or playoff game, and nearly 20 have had multiple stints over the years. The Islanders have won the Stanley Cup four consecutive times (1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983), with a total of 32 players playing for the team throughout those four wins. Jaroslav Halak - New York Islanders
Jaroslav (also written as Yaroslav or Jarosław in other Slavic languages) is a Czech and Slovak first name, pagan in origin. There are several possible origins of the name Jaroslav. Mike Bossy
Michael Dean Bossy (January 22, 1957April 15, 2022) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. He spent his entire NHL career, which lasted from 1977 to 1987, with the Islanders, and was a crucial part of their four consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the early 1980s. Bossy won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1978 as NHL rookie of the year when he set the then-record for most goals by a rookie with 53. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy in the 1982 Stanley Cup playoffs as the most valuable player and the Lady Byng Trophy for combining high quality play with sportsmanship three times. Duane Sutter
Duane Calvin Sutter (born March 16, 1960) is a Canadian former National Hockey League player and head coach. He is one of the famed six Sutter brothers to play in the NHL. On May 21 2019, the Edmonton Oilers relieved Duane from his head of pro scouting duties. Playing career Duane was drafted by the New York Islanders in 1979 in the first round (17th overall). During the following season he made his debut for the Islanders, and as a rookie was a key contributor to the Islanders first Stanley Cup championship. Billy Smith (ice Hockey)
William John Smith (born December 12, 1950) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He won four Stanley Cups with the New York Islanders and was the first goalie to be credited with a goal in the NHL. In 2017 Smith was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history. Playing career NHL beginnings Smith was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 5th round of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft from the Cornwall Royals of the QMJHL. He played two seasons with the Kings' minor league affiliate, the American Hockey League's Springfield Kings, and spent a brief stint with the big-league Kings after winning a Calder Cup for Springfield in 1971. Denis Potvin
# Denis Charles Potvin (born October 29, 1953) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman and team captain for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is a four-time Stanley Cup winner as a member of the early 1980s New York Islanders. Potvin is also a three-time James Norris Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL's top defenceman. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991 and served as a commentator for Ottawa Senators' television broadcasts on Sportsnet. Potvin is the former color commentator for the Florida Panthers. Stefan Persson (ice Hockey)
Eric Stefan Persson (born 22 December 1954) is a Swedish professional ice hockey executive and former player. He is the general manager of Borås HC hockey club in Sweden. Persson played for nine seasons with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL), where he was a member of four Stanley Cup championship teams in the early 1980s. Playing career Persson made his playing debut as an 18-year-old defenceman with Piteå IF. In 1973 he joined Brynäs. Bob Nystrom
Robert Thore Nystrom (born October 10, 1952) is a Swedish-Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger. He played for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1972– 86. He is best remembered as having scored the winning goal at the 7:11 mark of overtime to give the New York Islanders the 1980 Stanley Cup title. This signaled the first of four straight championships for the club. He was also among the last NHL players to not wear a helmet during a game. Wayne Merrick
Leonard Wayne Merrick (born April 23, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 774 career National Hockey League games for the St. Louis Blues, California Seals, Cleveland Barons and New York Islanders. Dave Langevin
David Richard Langevin (born May 15, 1954) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played 216 games for the Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association (WHA) as well as 513 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Islanders, Minnesota North Stars and Los Angeles Kings between 1977 and 1987. He is a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. Amateur career Langevin played for the University of Minnesota Duluth ice hockey team in 1972–76. Gord Lane
Gordon Thomas Lawrence Lane (born March 31, 1953) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Lane played in the National Hockey League for the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders. Lane was a member of the Islanders team that won four Stanley Cups in the 1980s. Lane played junior in the WCHL, first with the Brandon Wheat Kings and, after a trade, with the New Westminster Bruins. A strong training ethic and quality coaching resulted in Lane being selected in the NHL draft. Originally selected in the 1973 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Lane was signed to a minor league contract with the Fort Wayne Komets. Anders Kallur
Anders Kallur (born July 6, 1952) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey player. Kallur played for Modo Hockey and Södertälje SK before moving to Djurgårdens IF in 1978. He was awarded Guldpucken as the best player of the 1978–79 season. He was signed by New York Islanders in 1979 and played his entire North American career with that team (except for two games with Indianapolis Checkers). Together with fellow Swede Stefan Persson, Kallur was part of the first NHL team ( 1979-80 New York Islanders) to win a Stanley Cup with European-trained players on its roster. Scottish-born Dunc Munro of the Montreal Maroons was the first European-born player to win the Stanley Cup.
