New York Film Critics Circle
The New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) is an American film critic organization founded in 1935 by Wanda Hale from the New York ''Daily News''. Its membership includes over 30 film critics from New York-based daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, and online publications. In December of each year, the organization meets to vote on the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, given annually to honor excellence in cinema worldwide of the calendar year. The NYFCC also gives special stand-alone awards to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the art of cinema, including writers, directors, producers, film critics, film restorers, historians and service organizations. Wings Of Desire
''Wings of Desire'' (, ; ) is a 1987 romantic fantasy film written by Wim Wenders, Peter Handke and Richard Reitinger, and directed by Wenders. The film is about invisible, immortal angels who populate Berlin and listen to the thoughts of its human inhabitants, comforting the distressed. Even though the city is densely populated, many of the people are isolated or estranged from their loved ones. One of the angels, played by Bruno Ganz, falls in love with a beautiful, lonely trapeze artist, played by Solveig Dommartin. The angel chooses to become mortal so that he can experience human sensory pleasures, ranging from enjoying food to touching a loved one, and so that he can discover human love with the trapeze artist. Lü Yue (cinematographer)
Lü Yue (, born December 1957) is a Chinese cinematographer and film director. Early life In December 1957, Lu was born in Tianjin, China. Career Lü is today among the most important cinematographers of recent Chinese cinema, and is particularly well known for his collaborations with director Zhang Yimou with whom he served as director of photography in three films. Lü was nominated for an Academy Award for best cinematographer for Zhang's film ''Shanghai Triad''. He has also served as cinematographer for other Fifth Generation directors such as Tian Zhuangzhuang (for 1985's ''On the Hunting Ground'') as well as for older directors, such as Huang Shuqin (for 1994's ''A Soul Haunted by Painting''). Shanghai Triad
''Shanghai Triad'' is a 1995 Chinese crime-drama film, directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li. The script is written by Bi Feiyu based on Li Xiao's 1994 novel ''Rules of a Clan'' (门规). The film is set in the criminal underworld of 1930s Shanghai, Republic of China and spans seven days. ''Shanghai Triad's'' Chinese title reads "Row, row, row to Grandma Bridge", refers to a well known traditional Chinese lullaby. The film was the last collaboration between Zhang Yimou and actress Gong Li in the 1990s, thus ending a successful partnership that had begun with Zhang's debut, '' Red Sorghum'', and had evolved into a romantic relationship as well. Janusz Zygmunt Kamiński (; born June 27, 1959) is a Polish cinematographer and director of film and television. ''The Sheltering Sky'' is a 1990 British-Italian drama film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci starring Debra Winger and John Malkovich.
