New York Eagles
The New York Eagles were a professional soccer franchise that played in the American Soccer League from 1978 to 1981, with a one-year hiatus in 1980. The franchise played its first season in Mount Vernon, New York, then moved to Albany, New York for the 1979 and 1981 seasons, playing at Albany's Bleecker Stadium. The Eagles' top scorer, Vogislav "Billy" Boljevic, led the ASL in scoring in both 1981. The Eagles sat out the 1980 season due to financial constraints. The franchise made the playoffs in both the 1979 and 1981 seasons, but did not advance past the first game in either playoff appearance. Hranislav ( bg, Хранислав; Medieval Greek: ,Pachymeres, ed. Failler, p. 469 ''Chranisthlavos'') ( fl. 1278–1304) was a Bulgarian military commander who was a close associate of rebel leader and later Tsar Ivaylo (r. 1277–1280). After being captured by the Byzantines, Hranislav entered the service of Andronikos II Palaiologos (r. 1282–1328) as his '' megas tzaousios''. As a Byzantine officer, he commanded a detachment which assisted the Catalan Company in the anti- Turkish wars in Asia Minor. Biography Few details are known about Hranislav prior to his capture by the Byzantines. Clyde Watson
Clyde Watson (born Guyana) is a retired Guyanese footballer who played professionally in the American Soccer League. He also served as an assistant coach at the Washington Freedom. Watson attended Clemson University, where he played on the men's soccer team from 1973 to 1976. He was All ACC each of his four seasons with the Tigers. In 2002, he was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Team. In 1979, he was a First Team All Star with the New York Eagles of the American Soccer League. In 1980 and 1981, he played for the Pennsylvania Stoners of the American Soccer League. Watson represented Guyana in 1982 World Cup qualifying, scoring four goals in the first round series versus Grenada. Robert Steinberg (Soccer Player)
Robert Steinberg (May 25, 1922, Soroca, Bessarabia, Romania (present-day Moldova) – May 25, 2014) was a mathematician at the University of California, Los Angeles. He introduced the Steinberg representation, the Lang–Steinberg theorem, the Steinberg group in algebraic K-theory, Steinberg's formula in representation theory, and the Steinberg groups in Lie theory that yield finite simple groups over finite fields. Biography Born in Soroca (then in the Kingdom of Romania, today in Moldova), Steinberg's parents settled in Canada very soon after his birth. Lesh Shkreli (born ) is a retired Montenegrin-American soccer forward who played in Yugoslavia, Greece and the United States. He led the American Indoor Soccer Association in scoring in 1984-1985, earning MVP honors. Shkreli is Albanian ethnic origin, more precisely of the Shkreli subgroup of Albanians who are a minority in coastal Montenegro. Playing career Shkreli began his career in the Red Star Belgrade youth system. At some point in his career he played in the Greek First Division.
