Gina Sillitti (born April 5, 1978) is an American Democratic Party politician who currently represents New York State Assembly district 16, which includes Port Washington, Manhasset, Great Neck, North Hills, East Hills, Flower Hill, Old Westbury, Roslyn Estates, Roslyn Heights, Herricks and Lake Success of Nassau County on Long Island. Personal life Sillitti grew up in Mount Sinai, New York and Florida. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Georgia in 2000. She moved to Manorhaven in 2012. She is married to Kevin Clemency. Before running for office, she spent nearly two decades in public service, starting at the Nassau County Legislature. Michelle E. Schimel (born August 8, 1957) is a former Democratic member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 16th Assembly District in Nassau County from 2007 to 2016. Early life and education Schimel was born in Brooklyn, New York. In 1978, she received a BS degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Allied Medical Professions. She was vice president of a fashion accessories firm in Manhattan from 1982 to 1994. She also worked at North Shore University Hospital as a physical therapist and certified wound care specialist. Political career Schimel was first elected Town Clerk of North Hempstead in 1999, a position she held until being elected to the State Assembly. On March 27, 2007, she won 86 percent of the vote in a special election to replace Thomas DiNapoli who became State Comptroller. Anthony 'Tony' D'Urso (born October 17, 1939) is an Italian-American politician who represented the 16th District of the New York State Assembly from 2017 to 2020. First elected in 2016, he is a Democrat. The district includes the majority of the town of North Hempstead in Nassau County on Long Island. Early life Born in Italy, D'Urso immigrated to the United States at age 21 with only eight years of education. As a child in Formia, Italy, he witnessed both of his parents risking their lives to hide a Jewish family from the German soldiers. Herricks is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 4,295 at the 2010 census. It is an unincorporated area, and is located in the southern part of Town of North Hempstead. History The school in Herricks was established in 1813, making it one of the oldest in Nassau County. It was named for Herricks Path, a path that existed as early as 1659. By 1898, the Herricks School was one of Nassau County's last single-room schools. Roslyn Heights is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It is considered part of the Greater Roslyn area, which is anchored by the Incorporated Village of Roslyn. The population was 6,577 at the 2010 census. History Roslyn Heights saw a major economic boom in the 1860s shortly after the Long Island Rail Road's Oyster Bay Branch was built through and opened in the area. Starting in 1892, corporation was started to develop the northwestern section of the hamlet. Members of this development corporation included lawyers, bankers, and developers.
