New Territories East Cluster
New Territories East Cluster () is one of the seven hospital clusters managed by Hospital Authority in Hong Kong. It consists of seven public hospitals and ten general outpatient clinics to provide public healthcare services for the population of Sha Tin, Tai Po, North District, and part of the Sai Kung District. In mid-2019, the population was 1,320,300. The current Cluster Chief Executive is Dr Beatrice Cheng. Services New Territories East Cluster operates the following seven hospitals of various capabilities to provide a range of acute, convalescent, rehabilitation, infirmary inpatient, and ambulatory care services to the public in the areas of Sha Tin, Tai Po, North District, and part of the Sai Kung District. Hospital Authority
The Hospital Authority is a statutory body managing all the government hospitals and institutes in Hong Kong. It is under the governance of its board and is under the monitor of the Secretary for Food and Health of the Hong Kong Government. Its chairman is Henry Fan. History Before the establishment of the authority, all health and medical issues were under the management of the Medical and Health Department. In 1990, a new health administration system was introduced as part of the 1989 reforms. The establishment of the Authority served to rebuild state capacity amid the emergence of party politics in Hong Kong. The department became the Department of Health and in 1991, the management of all the public hospitals was passed to a new statutory body, the Hospital Authority, which was established on 1 December 1990 under the Hospital Authority Ordinance. Sha Tin
Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The new town was founded in 1973 under the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government. Its current name was named after the nearby village of Sha Tin Wai. The literal English translation is 'Sand Fields'. North District () is the northernmost district of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the northeastern part of the New Territories. Sai Kung District
Sai Kung District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China. The district comprises the southern half of the Sai Kung Peninsula, the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in the New Territories and a strip of land to the east of Kowloon. Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital
Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) is an acute district general hospital managed under the New Territories East Cluster of the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong. Established by the former London Missionary Society in 1887, it was the first teaching hospital in Hong Kong to train Cantonese locals in Western medical science. It moved to its current location in Tai Po in 1997. History Early in 1881, a Medical Mission Committee, mostly made up of members of the former London Missionary Society, was established to promote Western medicine in Hong Kong. Bradbury Hospice () is a hospice with 26 beds located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. It is under the New Territories East Cluster managed by the Hospital Authority. History Bradbury Hospice was found by the Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care and is the first independent hospice in Hong Kong. North District Hospital () or NDH is an acute general hospital serving the population of the New Territories East Cluster.
