The New Telegraph is an all-national newspaper in Nigeria, with a circulation of up to 100,000 copies per day. The New Telegraph targets Nigerian and foreign readers in and around the country's urban centers, as well as internationally, and aims to provide objective and incisive coverage of pressing political and socio-cultural issues. The New Telegraph is chaired by Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and features prominent domestic and foreign columnists, including human rights lawyer Emmanuel Onwe. Orji Uzor Kalu
Orji Uzor Kalu (born 21 April 1960) is a Nigerian politician and businessperson who is a Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, He also serves as the Chief Whip of the House of Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria. He served as the Governor of Abia State, Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. Kalu is the chairman of SLOK Holding and the ''Daily Sun'' and ''New Telegraph'' newspapers in Nigeria. Prior to his election, he served as the chairman of the Borno Water Board and the chairman of the Cooperative and Commerce Bank Limited. Kalu was also a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and the chairman of the PPA Board of Trustees. He was the party's presidential candidate in the April 2007 general election. Emmanuel Onwe
Emmanuel Onwe is a lawyer, human rights activist, newspaper columnist, and former member of the Nigerian Senate. He is presently the Commissioner for Information in Nigeria's Ebonyi State. He is also a founding and executive member of the Njiko Igbo Movement. Onwe supports the need for transparency and non-politically driven anti-corruption reforms in Nigeria. He has stated that internal squabbles continue to paralyse the government and "if gone unchecked, could result in national paralysis and the tragic death of hope itself." Background and education Onwe was born in Ebonyi State. He received his early education at Our Lady of Fatima (later renamed the Community Primary School) in Ikwo and the Presbyterian Secondary School, Abakaliki in Anambra State.
