New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union
The New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union, or NSWSRU, is affiliated to the New South Wales Rugby Union and runs the competition affectionately known as "Subbies" rugby. There are around 7500 players and 55 clubs competing across 6 divisions, making "Subbies" the largest centrally administered rugby competition in the world. NSWSRU is truly the grassroots of rugby in Sydney. The major trophy in "Subbies" is the Kentwell Cup that is awarded to the first grade premiers of the first division competition. The NSWSRU selects representative sides to compete against New South Wales Country for the Maher-Ross Cup, and Queensland Suburban for the Barraclough Shield. The New South Wales Rugby Union, or NSWRU, is the governing body for the sport of rugby union within most of the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is a member and founding union of Rugby Australia. Within Australia it is considered the strongest Union. It has the largest player base, biggest population, most suburban clubs, and the oldest running club rugby competition in the country. The southern areas of New South Wales encompassing the Monaro, Far South Coast, and Southern Inland unions are not affiliated with the NSWRU. They are now within the ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union. The New South Wales Rugby Union was founded in 1874 as the ''Southern Rugby Union'', before changing to the present name in 1893. Waverley Rugby Club
The Waverley Rugby Football and Sporting Club (Waverley RF&SC) was founded in 1971. It is plays in the New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union, the largest rugby union football competition in New South Wales. The club is based in Bondi in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. In 2020, in its 50th season, Waverley's 1st and 3rd Grades reached the grand finals of the Kentwell and Whiddon Cups (1st Gde and 3rd Gdes, 1st Div.) of the NSW Suburban Rugby Union competition. In 2021, Waverley is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Waverley has a proud history in the New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union competition having won numerous Grade and Divisional championships. Brothers Rugby Club is an Australian rugby union club that is based in Roseville, New South Wales, Sydney. History Brothers was formed by Old Boys of St Pius X College, Chatswood in 1947 and was at that time known as Christian Brothers Old Boys or CBOB’s. In 2005, it was decided to change the club name from CBOB’s to the very familiar "Brothers" Rugby Club Sydney. "Brothers" is one of the most well known rugby brands in Australia. The Balmain Rugby Football Club is an Australian rugby union football club, based in Balmain, Sydney, New South Wales. The original club established in 1873 is one of the oldest rugby clubs in Australia. Balmain was one of the founding members in 1874 of the Southern Rugby Union, later renamed the New South Wales Rugby Union, which was the first governing body for the sport in the Southern Hemisphere. Billy Murdoch, who would later go on to captain the Australian cricket team, was Balmain's first captain, and he represented the club at the Southern Rugby Union's formation. The Lindfield Rugby Club is an Australian rugby union football club in Sydney. The club's home ground is in the suburb of East Lindfield. Lindfield competes in the NSWSRU competition. The Lindfield Juniors Rugby club is also one of the largest for junior players in Australia. History The Lindfield Rugby Club was founded in 1919 by soldiers returning from the first world war. The club played in local rugby competitions before being admitted to the Metropolitan Sub-Districts Rugby Union in 1948 and winning the minor premiership in that year. Lindfield remained in first division for most of the next five decades, being relegated once for the 1987 season before returning to the top level for another eight seasons until 1995. The Hunters Hill Rugby Club, is an Australian amateur rugby union club based in Hunters Hill, New South Wales. The Forest Rugby Club was established in 1958, to serve the community, not only as a rugby club but also to assist in the development of the youth in The Forest area. The club has grown dramatically since its inception and now fields junior teams from U6's to U17's.
