New Mexico State Road 434
New Mexico State Road 434 (NM 434) is a state highway in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The route travels through Colfax, and Mora Counties, and through the communities of Angel Fire, Black Lake, Guadalupita and Mora. The southern terminus is at NM 518 in Mora, and the northern terminus is at U.S. Route 64 (US 64) in Angel Fire by the Angel Fire Airport. It includes a dangerous curve that concerns area residents and has prompted a wrongful death suit. Coyote Creek State Park is located on State Road 434 just north of Guadalupita. Angel Fire is a village in Colfax County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,216 at the 2010 census. It is a popular ski resort destination, with over of slopes. Coyote Creek State Park is a state park of New Mexico, United States, preserving a riparian canyon in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The park is located north of Mora. Coyote Creek is the most densely stocked trout stream in New Mexico. Geography Coyote Creek, a tributary of the Mora River, flows almost due south through Guadalupita Canyon. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. State Road 518 (NM 518) is a state highway in northern New Mexico. NM 518 begins as a continuation of 7th Street at Mills Avenue near Interstate 25 in New Mexico, Interstate 25 (I-25) in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Las Vegas. It proceeds north to La Cueva, Mora County, New Mexico, La Cueva where the road turns northwest at its junction with New Mexico State Road 442, NM 442. Mora, New Mexico
Mora or is a census-designated place in, and the county seat of, Mora County, New Mexico. It is located about halfway between Las Vegas and Taos on Highway 518, at an altitude of 7,180 feet. The Republic of Texas performed a semi-official raid on Mora in 1843. Two short battles of the Mexican–American War were fought in Mora in 1847, where U.S. troops eventually defeated the Hispano and Puebloan militia, effectively ending the Taos Revolt in the Mora Valley. The latter battle destroyed most of the community, necessitating its re-establishment. Mora includes three plazas and four settlements: Mora proper, Cleveland (originally named San Antonio), Chacon, and Holman (without a plaza, and originally named Agua Negra) lying between Chacon and Cleveland.
