Isleta Village Proper is a census-designated place (CDP) in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Isleta Village Proper is located at (34.907901, -106.693176). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all land. The village lies in the Rio Grande Valley of the Albuquerque Basin on the west bank of the Rio Grande. When the river is low, the nearby Isleta Diversion Dam and the downstream San Acacia Diversion Dam, both managed by the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, can divert all water from the Rio Grande along a stretch of the river. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 496 people, 190 households, and 125 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,839.4 people per square mile (709.3/km2). The Southern Tiwa name of the pueblo is (Shee-eh-whíb-bak) meaning "a knife laid on the ground to play ''whib",'' a traditional footrace. Its people are a federally recognized tribe. Pueblo of Isleta is located in the Middle Rio Grande Valley, south of Albuquerque. It is adjacent to and east of the main section of Laguna Pueblo. The pueblo was built on a knife-shaped reef of lava running across an ancient Rio Grande channel. The Isleta Pueblo Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. New Mexico State Road 314
State Road 314 (NM 314) is a state highway in the US state of New Mexico, connecting Belen to I-25 by way of the Isleta Pueblo. The entire route is an old alignment of US 85, and the portion north of Los Lunas is also a historic routing of US 66. Route description NM 314 begins at an intersection with Interstate 25 Business just north of Belen. From here it proceeds slightly east of north, generally paralleling the route of the BNSF Railway and the Rio Grande. At Los Lunas, it intersects NM 6, where the original alignment of US 66 turns north. NM 314 continues to the Pueblo of Isleta, where it intersects NM 45 and turns to the northeast. After passing the settlement of Isleta and intersecting NM 147, it turns to the north again before coming to its northern terminus at Interstate 25. New Mexico State Road 47 (NM 47) is a state highway in Bernalillo, Valencia, and Socorro Counties in New Mexico. NM 47's southern terminus is at an intersection with U.S. Route 60 (US 60). The highway then proceeds north intersecting with Interstate 25 (I-25) before the northern terminus at an intersection with NM 556. Route description NM 47 begins at an intersection with U.S. Highway 60 in rural Socorro County and proceeds northwest, soon entering Valencia County. The route reaches the Rio Grande at the town of Rio Communities, from which one can cross the Rio Grande on NM 309 to reach Belen. At this junction, NM 47 turns slightly east of north and follows the eastern shore of the Rio Grande, opposite from NM 314 and I-25. It enters Bernalillo County at Isleta Pueblo and continues to the northeast, where it has a system interchange with Interstate 25.
