New Market, also known as the McDonald-Rhodus-Lesesne House, is a historic home and national historic district located near Greeleyville, Williamsburg County, South Carolina. It encompasses 2 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites. The house was built about 1820, and a one-story, frame extended Double Pen house over a raised brick basement. It features a typical "rain porch" on the front of the house supported by four tapered and chamfered wooden posts. Also on the property are a 1 1/2-story frame tobacco pack house (c. 1916), the foundation of a greenhouse, and a pecan avenue and grove (c. 1920). Greeleyville, South Carolina
Greeleyville is a town in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 438 at the 2010 census. The town was originally chartered on December 20, 1893. Greeleyville's seal and flag feature a depiction of the first Town Hall, which was built in the 1890s, as well as two arms, one black and one white, holding a tobacco leaf and a cotton bowl. These symbols represent the unity and cooperation among all the people of Greeleyville and pay tribute to the town's agricultural heritage. Since 1982, the town has hosted an annual Flag Day celebration each Memorial Day weekend that features bingo, street dances, barbecue, as well as various other types of vendors. Williamsburg County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census its population was 31,026. The county seat and largest city is Kingstree. After a previous incarnation of Williamsburg County, the current county was created in 1804. History In 1867 the United States military oversaw the registering of voters in the county in preparation for the election of a new "reconstruction" government. In the Williamsburg District, there were 800 whites and 1,725 African-Americans who were eligible to vote under the new system.
