New Jersey Rockets (MISL)
The New Jersey Rockets were an indoor soccer team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey that played in the Major Indoor Soccer League for the 1981-82 season. Their home arena was the Brendan Byrne Arena, now known as the Meadowlands Arena. One of the owners was Timothy Sullivan, who was later asked if he wanted to be a part-owner of the New Jersey Devils, to which he replied, "hockey is too big a risk." The Rockets' average attendance for their one season of play was 6,565. Indoor Soccer
Indoor soccer or arena soccer (known internationally as indoor football, fast football, or showball) is five-a-side version of minifootball, derived from association football and adapted to be played in walled hardcourt indoor arena. Indoor soccer, as it is most often known in the United States and Canada, was originally developed in these two countries as a way to play soccer during the winter months, when snow would make outdoor play difficult. In those countries, gymnasiums are adapted for indoor soccer play. Meadowlands Arena
Meadowlands Arena (formerly Brendan Byrne Arena, Continental Airlines Arena and Izod Center) is a closed indoor arena facility located in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States. The arena is located on New Jersey Route 120 across the highway from MetLife Stadium and the Meadowlands Racetrack, next to the American Dream shopping and entertainment complex. The arena, which opened in 1981, was originally built to accommodate the New Jersey Nets basketball team. In 1982, the Colorado Rockies hockey team joined the Nets in the new building and became known as the New Jersey Devils. Timo Liekoski
Timo Liekoski (born June 30, 1942) is a Finnish soccer coach who managed teams in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League, American Indoor Soccer Association and Major League Soccer. He currently holds a variety of coaching positions with the Football Association of Finland. Player A native of Finland, Liekoski was drafted into the Finnish army when he was eighteen. After completing his service two years later, he moved to the United States. In 1964, Liekoski was working as a dishwasher when Al Miller noticed him watching Miller and his teammates practicing. At the time Miller played for the amateur Kingston Kickers and coached at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Miller invited Liekoski, a goalkeeper, to join the Kingston Kickers. Ian Anderson (11 September 1954 – 5 November 2008) was a Scottish professional Association football, football defender (football), defender who spent most of his career playing in the United States. Anderson began his professional career with Dundee F.C., Dundee when he was sixteen, his debut with the first team coming in August 1972. He moved to St Johnstone F.C., St Johnstone in December 1975. St Johnstone sent him on loan in 1977 to the Tampa Bay Rowdies (1975–93), Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League (1968-1984), North American Soccer League.
