New Hope Group
New Hope Group is an Australian thermal coal-mining company. New Hope's operations include Jeebropilly Mine, New Acland Mine, New Oakleigh Mine and Queensland Bulk Handling. It is headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland. History New Hope was established in 1952 in Ipswich, Queensland. In the 1970s it was purchased by Washington H Soul Pattinson. The early 1980s saw the commencement of coal exporting from the Ipswich region, with New Hope being one of the first companies to successfully obtain trials of Ipswich coal into the Japanese market. New Hope's first export shipment, 17,332 tonnes of Bundamba coal, was aboard MV ''Floret'' which sailed from the Maynegrain grain terminal at Pinkenba on 10 September 1980. Swanbank Power Station
The Swanbank Power Stations are located in Swanbank within South East Queensland, Australia. The original power station was coal fired, but the site has since moved to gas. By 2007 the site had consisted of the highly efficient gas-fired Swanbank E Power Station and the smaller gas-fired Swanbank C Power Station. Swanbank E was written off by the Queensland Audit Office as having no value, as it is uneconomical to run in 2021. Components Swanbank A was commissioned in 1967 and decommissioned in August 2005. It had six steam turbines, and was powered by coal. The three high, concrete smoke stacks were collapsed on 20 August 2006. Western Railway Line, Queensland
The Western railway line is a narrow gauge () railway, connecting the south-east and south-west regions of Queensland, Australia. It commences at Toowoomba, at the end of the Main Line railway from Brisbane, and extends west 810 km to Cunnamulla, passing through the major towns of Dalby, Roma and Charleville, although services on the 184 km section from Westgate to Cunnamulla have been suspended since 2011. Acland, Queensland
Acland is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Acland had a population of 32 people. Originally built to support what would become Queensland's oldest continuously worked coal mine, the town had a population of between 200 and 400 prior to the mine being shut down in 1984. In 2008 almost all properties comprising the town were purchased by the new mine operators with the intention that they be demolished as the open cut mine expands into the town site. By 2009 there was only one remaining resident, Glenn Beutel, who had refused the company's offer to purchase his property. Brisbane River
