New Hope (Israel)
New Hope (), officially known as New Hope — Unity for Israel ( he, תִּקְוָוה חֲדָשָׁה אַחְדוּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל, Tikva Hadasha Achdut L'Israel), is a centre-right to right-wing conservative and national-liberal political party in Israel. History The party was formed by former Likud MK and former minister Gideon Sa'ar on 8 December 2020, with Sa'ar subsequently submitting his resignation from the Knesset on 9 December. On the same day, Derekh Eretz MKs Yoaz Hendel and Zvi Hauser announced that they would join New Hope. Likud MKs Yifat Shasha-Biton, Michal Shir, Sharren Haskel, and Ze'ev Elkin later joined as well. Meir Yitzhak Halevi joined the party on 28 December. Benny Begin and Dani Dayan joined on 21 January 2021, whilst MK Hila Vazan joined on 31 January. Gideon Sa'ar
Gideon Moshe Sa'ar ( he, גִּדְעוֹן סַעַר; born 9 December 1966) is an Israeli politician who has served as Minister of Justice since June 2021. Sa'ar was previously a member of the Knesset for the Likud between 2003 and 2014, as Deputy Prime Minister for a brief spell in 2021, as well as holding the posts of Education Minister (2009–2013) and Minister of the Interior (2013–2014). In 2019 Sa'ar returned to the Knesset and unsuccessfully ran against longtime leader Benjamin Netanyahu for the leadership of the Likud; he left the Knesset the following year after establishing a new party called New Hope. Yifat Shasha-Biton
Yifat Shasha-Biton (, born 23 May 1973) is an Israeli educator and politician. She was appointed Minister of Education in June 2021. She was elected to the twenty-fourth Knesset on the New Hope list, after serving as an MK for Kulanu and Likud. She held the post of Minister of Construction and Housing from 2019 to 2020. Biography Yifat Shasha-Biton was born in Kiryat Shmona in 1973 to Rachel, a nurse born in Morocco and Moshe David, the owner of a transportation company born in Iraq. She attended the Darca Danciger high school in Kiryat Shmona. In 2002 she received her doctorate in education from the University of Haifa, having already obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in education at the same university. 2022 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 1 November 2022 to elect the 120 members of the 25th Knesset. The results saw the right-wing national camp of former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu achieving a parliamentary majority, amid losses for left-wing and Arab parties, as well as far-right gains. After the 2021 Israeli legislative election, the next elections had been scheduled for no later than 11 November 2025 according to the four-year term limit set by Basic Law: The Government. Blue and White ( he, כָּחוֹל לָבָן ''Kaḥol Lavan'') is a centrist and liberal political alliance in Israel. It was established by the Israel Resilience Party, Yesh Atid and Telem to run in the April 2019 Knesset election, in hopes of defeating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Blue and White defines itself as a pluralistic alliance representing all citizens on the political and religious spectrums. The phrase "blue and white" refers to the colors of the Israeli flag, and is colloquially used to describe something as being typically Israeli. Following the March 2020 elections, Blue and White leader Benny Gantz was tasked with forming a new government after receiving endorsements from a majority of 61 MKs. Yamina
Yamina or Yemina (; ) is an Israeli political alliance of right-wing parties that originally included the New Right and the Union of Right-Wing Parties (a union of The Jewish Home and Tkuma). The current incarnation of the alliance includes only the New Right, as The Jewish Home left the alliance on 14 July 2020, and the Religious Zionist Party left on 20 January 2021. The list was created ahead of the September 2019 Israeli legislative election, in which Yamina secured seven seats in the Knesset. The alliance was expected to split on 6 October, with the New Right as its own faction, while Tkuma and the Jewish Home will stay together, though the alliance continued to negotiate as a single bloc in the aftermath of the election. Hila Shai-Vazan ( he, הילה שי-וזאן, born 16 April 1980) is an Israeli journalist and politician. She served as a member of the Knesset for the Blue and White party between June 2020 and January 2021. Dani Dayan ( he, דני דיין; born 29 November 1955) is an Argentine Jews in Israel, Argentine-Israeli entrepreneur and Consul General of Israel in New York since August 2016 and Yad Vashem chairman since August 2021. Dayan is an advocate for the establishment and maintenance of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. He served as the Chairman of the Yesha Council from 2007 to 2013. Meir Yitzhak Halevi
Meir Yitzhak Halevi ( he, מאיר יצחק-הלוי, born 1953) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the New Hope party. He previously served as mayor of Eilat between 2003 and 2021. In addition, he serves as a deputy in the Ministry of Education. Biography Halevi was born in Jerusalem, in 1953, and is of Yemenite-Jewish descent, as his grandfather was the chief rabbi of Yemen. Halevi fought in the Yom Kippur War. Political career He moved to Eilat in 1978 and ran the community centre and management college in the city. He was elected to the city council in 1993, and ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 1998.
