New Hall (HM Prison)
HMP New Hall is a Closed Category prison for female adults, juveniles and young offenders. The prison is located in the village of Flockton (near Wakefield) in West Yorkshire, England. New Hall is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. History In 1933, New Hall became the first prison to implement the then-experimental Open Prison system. This was seen as a potential method for dealing with the combined problems of the rising numbers of prisoners and the lack of proper employment for them. At first, the prison was populated by prisoners from HMP Wakefield who were soon due to be released, but in 1961 the prison became a Senior Detention Centre for male young offenders. It was during this time that, on some occasions, the 'Short, sharp shock' regime was introduced. Flockton
Flockton is a village in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, halfway between Huddersfield, 7 miles (11 km) away and Wakefield, 8 miles (13 km) away. It is in the parish of Kirkburton and whilst it is in Kirklees, it has a Wakefield postcode. The name derives from Floki (an Old Norse person's name) and Tūn (which is Old English for enclosure or fence. The village is situated approximately east from Huddersfield and the same distance south-west from Wakefield. It has a population of 1,410 (2006 estimate). Star Hobson (21 May 2019 – 22 September 2020) was a one-year-old child who was murdered by her mother's girlfriend on 22 September 2020 in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. Alan Robert Webster (born 1965 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire) is a high-profile English prisoner who pleaded guilty to several counts of rape against a 12-week-old baby girl, and making indecent images in January 2006. Shiregreen Child Murders
At around 07:30 BST on 24 May 2019, police officers were called to a residential property on Gregg House Road in Shiregreen, a northern suburb of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, following reports concerning the welfare of children.
